Background
Li Xingluo was born to Li Hong and his first wife, Empress Pu Wanjun. Her mother had helped Li Hong rise to the throne, but died saving him when Great Demons infiltrated the Imperial City; Li Xingluo’s elder brother also perished during the attack. Li Xingluo survived as a newborn. 18 93 103
Out of grief and guilt, Li Hong made her the sole one among his nine daughters to receive the title of Princess and granted her the right to establish her own manor. He also personally taught her from childhood and gave her authority comparable to the Crown Prince’s. 18 103
Despite Li Hong’s affection, Li Xingluo grew up troubled by unanswered questions surrounding her mother’s death, her brother’s death, Pu Mingzhu’s conduct during the tragedy, and the Pu Clan’s hidden history. These doubts repeatedly fuel her insecurity and fear of being used as a tool. 103 116
Personality
Li Xingluo is poised, dignified, and politically perceptive in public. She recognizes talent, respects capable people, and actively recruits useful subordinates rather than relying solely on inherited authority. Her decision to offer Daoist Kongxu a fourth-rank position demonstrates both ambition and an eye for strategic value. 35 45
She is fiercely protective of people she considers her own. In the Ten Thousand Races Imperial Examination, she openly confronted several fourth-rank opponents to protect Qin Muye, using moral pressure and the threat of retaliation to force them back. 85
Behind her composure, she struggles with loneliness, jealousy, fear of abandonment, and the increasingly intrusive desires caused by refining totem source qi. Rather than surrender to those impulses, she repeatedly seeks greater strength and self-control. 95 102 103 189
As Black Egret, she displays a much freer and more unrestrained side. She also values personal autonomy, refusing to treat Black Egret as property and insisting that she is free to choose where she lives and whom she serves. 93
