The history of the Sassoon family is a classic "dark-side" power fantasy: a small, unwelcome family in West Asia was driven out by a powerful local force.

They ended up taking root in the Far East, becoming the universally revered Little Emperor of Mumbai. From then on, they killed anyone who stood in their way, whether man or god. Even if a nation blocked their path to fortune, they could leverage their connections in London to launch a war and "teach them a lesson."

"Entering the Dao through poison," they used the immense wealth generated by the opium trade, combined with the interpersonal networks they had cultivated for years, to set their sights on a grander goal: controlling the financial markets of the Far East.

HSBC, a name that accompanied the entire modern history of humiliation for the ancient Eastern nation. With their unique status, the Sassoon family turned HSBC into the "Swiss Bank" of East Asia.

It was the top choice for the official and gentry classes of the Qing Empire; after all, HSBC was a foreigner's bank with "strict" confidentiality protocols, making it impossible for the corrupt Qing court to supervise or uncover the corruption within.

Just like that, they were left to leech off the land of Shenzhou, harvesting the corrupt officials and capitalists who themselves sucked the blood of the lower classes, effectively controlling both the political and economic spheres of the Qing Empire to a certain extent.

For the next hundred years, the bureaucrats, warlords, capitalists, landlords, and even bandits on the land of Shenzhou were all bled dry by this malignant tumor.
