Background / History

Kujo Clan and Demon Slayer Corps

In his earliest documented life, A lived as Kujo Tachibana, a long-haired youth of the Kujo Clan in Toyama Prefecture. Memories of illness from a previous life made him prioritize physical health; he trained his clan’s swordsmanship for years, mastered it by age ten, and defeated a dozen adult thugs with a bamboo sword. By fourteen, he had reached Sword Heart Clarity, an unprecedented achievement in his clan. 1

After facing Lower Moon Two Rokuro, Tachibana recognized that his clan’s Sword Heart Clarity corresponded to the Transparent World. He observed and copied Water Breathing, then combined it with bodily control to decapitate Rokuro. 6 7

Kuwajima Jigoro identified Thunder Breathing as a better fit for Tachibana. Tachibana had already analyzed Jigoro’s body and breathing through the Transparent World, allowing him to reproduce the style immediately; he subsequently joined the Demon Slayer Corps. 10

Within his first year in the Corps, he killed eighty-six demons—including Lower Moons One, Three, Four, and Six—without recorded injury. His two Nichirin blades became known as Evil Slayer and Soul Suppressor. 17

Tachibana secretly protected candidates during Final Selection on Mount Fujikasane and guided Sabito against the Hand Demon rather than intervening directly. He also trained Himejima Gyomei in Sword Heart Clarity to help him develop a sixth sense. 13 20 22
