June 21st, Los Angeles.
"The Fast and the Furious" and "Jurassic Park 3" are set to premiere at midnight today.
Both films have already held their premiere events today.
Although the two movies were promoted together, it wasn't to the extent that their premiere events had to be held simultaneously.
At the premiere of "The Fast and the Furious," Lin Yuan had originally thought he would have a very easy time.
After all, his character's screen time wasn't significant; he was just a minor character with one highlight reel-worthy scene.
So, he should have been able to relax, hide behind Director Cohen, Paul Walker, and Vin Diesel, and just go through the motions.
But he forgot that he was the connecting thread for the joint promotion of both films. Several promotional videos even featured him and his exciting action sequences as selling points.
Therefore, Director Cohen directly pulled him from the back row to the front, fully utilizing him and his value. How could he possibly be allowed to slack off?
It was all because his fame, thanks to the explosive success of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and those promotional videos, surpassed even that of the lead actors, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel.
After finally finishing that event, he rushed to attend the premiere of "Jurassic Park 3" without a moment's rest.
As one of the leads, he had to take on even more responsibility.
The premiere of "Jurassic Park 3" was also very successful. The invited guests and various media outlets actively helped build buzz for the film, marking a good start.
Lin Yuan wasn't particularly fond of such occasions, but he had to cooperate and went through the entire process.
By the time everything concluded, his face felt somewhat stiff from the prolonged, ceremonial smile.
Finally, as the event wrapped up in the afternoon, Lin Yuan, feeling a bit weary, bid farewell to the cast and crew and returned home to get some sleep.
When he woke up again, it was already past 9 PM.
He drove himself to an ordinary small cinema in the city, bought a ticket for the premiere screening of "Jurassic Park 3," and went in to watch.
He wanted to experience the audience's most genuine reactions and observe them up close.
As the movie was about to start, Lin Yuan walked into the dark screening room, fumbled his way to a corner seat in the last row, and sat down.
This position was the most suitable for observing the reactions of the entire audience.
To his right and behind him were walls, and to his left sat a white couple, both around twenty years old.
Lin Yuan guessed their relationship was in the ambiguous stage, not yet official.
He understood why the man had bought tickets for the last row; couples in the ambiguous stage often did this, regardless of nationality.
In the darkness, the man gathered his courage and reached out his right hand towards his female companion's small hand when suddenly the movie screen lit up.
The sudden burst of light startled him.
"Damn it! Right at this moment." the man cursed softly.
"The movie's starting! I'm so excited!" the woman said, smiling as she looked at her male companion.
"If I wasn't coming to see this movie with her, I wouldn't want to come at all. I hope this movie is scary," the man muttered very quietly.
Lin Yuan overheard this and was reminded of a conversation he'd had with Liu Yifei:
Guys like to take girls to horror movies, thinking they're the hunters.
Little do they know, the girls who are willing to watch horror movies with them are the real hunters, disguised as prey.
There's definitely something going on between them.
At this moment, the movie officially began.
The first scene on screen showed a white speedboat cutting through waves on a vast blue sea.
The speedboat, moving at high speed, towed a thick rope, carrying a parachute through the air, much like a kite being pulled by a running boy.
The camera moved up, and on the parachute was a handsome young boy, looking towards the distance with surprise: "That's the famous Isla Sorna. I hope to see the legendary dinosaurs."
A close-up shot focused on the boy's face – a handsome East Asian face, young and full of heroic spirit.
"It's Lin Yuan! He's so handsome, I came to see this movie because of him," the white woman beside him exclaimed softly.
"I don't see what's so handsome about him, he lacks masculinity," the white man grumbled, displeased at his companion praising another man.
"What did you say?"
"I said he's the protagonist? Why is a Chinese person the lead?"
Lin Yuan, sitting nearby, heard their entire conversation.
Indeed, many people's first reaction upon seeing this movie was, "Why is a Chinese face the protagonist?"
This wasn't necessarily everyone being discriminatory. If a Chinese film cast a Black or White person as the lead, people would also find it a bit unusual at first.
It's only natural.
"What's wrong with a Chinese person being the protagonist? Lin Yuan is great!" the white woman continued.
"Is he? Then I'll wait to see his performance," the man replied dismissively.
On the movie screen, Lin Yuan, on the parachute, gazed towards the distance.
Following his perspective, a massive green island appeared in the distance, its vegetation lush and dense. Many black specks were flying in the air, their species unclear, whether they were large birds or something else.
That was Lin Yuan's destination: Isla Sorna.
Continuing the story from the previous two films, this was the island where dinosaurs lived. It had now been designated a nature reserve, prohibiting human entry.
But there were always curious humans who, like Lin Yuan, used high-altitude gliding to try and catch a glimpse of the dinosaurs.
"A little closer, I can't see clearly from here," Lin Yuan said, pulling out binoculars and looking through them.
Just then, an unknown creature suddenly leaped from the water and swallowed the speedboat's driver whole.
Without a driver, the speedboat began to surge forward erratically, and Lin Yuan, in the air, was thrown about.
Finally, the taut rope couldn't bear the strain and snapped in the middle.
The paraglider carried him into the dense jungle of Isla Sorna, where he became caught at the top of a large tree.
Hanging by the rope, Lin Yuan swung violently in mid-air, and it looked like the paraglider would detach and he would fall.
As an expert in extreme sports, Lin Yuan didn't panic. He calmly took out a small knife from his waist and cut several ropes behind him.
As the last rope was severed, he fell, reaching out to grab a thick branch and then smoothly swinging forward.
His movements were as light and elegant as if he lived among the trees every day.
After a few more jumps and drops, Lin Yuan safely reached the ground. He then cautiously surveyed his surroundings and slipped into a patch of bushes.
Seeing this, the woman next to Lin Yuan said, "He performed all these stunts himself. Isn't that cool?"
The man paused for a moment before replying, "He's got some skill, not just some pretty boy. But this alone isn't that impressive."
"Then just keep watching. There's plenty more to surprise you," the woman whispered.
