In the original story, Shanks had fought Blackbeard before founding the Red Hair Pirates. The outcome was unknown, but Shanks had been scarred for life—his eye had nearly been blinded, leaving behind a permanent scar. But now, Shanks followed Li. Thanks to Li, Shanks had remained on Lipo Magnetic Island for four years, and his strength had advanced by leaps and bounds. Yet Blackbeard had still managed to injure him. It seemed Blackbeard was not merely good at biding his time—he had some real strength as well.

"Captain, while we were out these past two years, we found a few more crew members. Take a look!" Benn Beckman spoke up, interrupting Li's thoughts. Li turned and immediately saw a fat man continuously gnawing on a chicken leg, as well as a long-haired blond youth with thick lips. Li narrowed his eyes slightly when he saw them. They were Lucky Roux and Yasopp, officers of the Red Hair Pirates in the original story.

"C-Captain, my name is Yasopp. I'm a sniper. Please take care of me from now on!" Yasopp was somewhat nervous upon seeing the man rumored to have forced both Sengoku and Garp to retreat. The battle at Lipo Magnetic Island six years ago had spread across nearly the entire Grand Line. Though Li had not reappeared for six years, his prestige had not diminished in the slightest. Shanks had traveled through the first half of the Grand Line during the past two years and happened to meet Yasopp and Lucky Roux. The moment they learned Shanks was Li's crewman, they immediately asked to join.

"C-Captain, I'll treat you to some meat. Please, you have to accept me! My name is Lucky Roux, and I'm skilled in gunmanship and martial arts!" Lucky Roux nervously held out the half-eaten chicken
