Chapter 547: The French Chicken: I'm Right at Home with This!

Pluto's Defensive Line,

As the Council of High Lords' last trump card, the Solar Auxilia had always stood guard over this final barrier leading into the Solar Segmentum. After thousands of years of frenzied construction, they had built countless Star Fortresses, creating a super-defensive line beyond the heart of the Imperium that could only be called a miracle of mankind.

In battle after battle, this unbreakable line had stopped countless attacks by Xenos and Chaos. They didn't even get the chance to approach the defensive line before multiple intersecting Star Fortresses opened fire on them.

The panic caused by the Horus Heresy had left mankind's leaders desperate for a sense of security. They had struck a deal with the Fourth Legion, who loved building wonders, and commissioned them to construct many marvels boasting technology straight out of the stars.

Never mind the three layers of unbreakable walls surrounding Holy Terra, each larger than the last. Even the Macro-cannons on the frontline bunkers had barrels as enormous as those mounted on battleships, and there were countless Lance Batteries as well.

To make use of these weapons, packed together at a frankly insane density, each frontline bunker stored enough combat supplies to sustain its personnel for a thousand years. Beneath the defensive works, which were nearly a thousand meters thick, lay a complete system for recycling air and other necessities.

With relic technology generously donated by the Adeptus Mechanicus on Mars, these frontline bunkers could operate in complete lockdown, making any infiltration or sudden assault impossible. And with the accompanying Navy forces stationed near every outpost, no power could break through by force.

Hardilis, the frontline commander of Pluto's Defensive Line, was remarkably young. He was just shy of seventy-six. Thanks
