When the orange afternoon sunlight slanted through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and fell upon the Italian sofa in Wanda's high-rise Manhattan apartment, the Maximoff siblings were reunited once again. To Pietro, who had undergone training, the distance from the Avengers base to Manhattan was not far at all. He had casually used buying candy as an excuse to vanish from under Agent Hill's watch, unaware that the base's vending machines carried all sorts of candy and that he could take as much as he wanted with his clearance.
Stark did his best to use money to make like-minded friends comfortable.
This meeting was no longer as tense as the last. Instead, it had returned to the atmosphere a long-overdue family gathering ought to have. Both Maximoffs cast thoughts of the City of Immortals and the Avengers aside.
Wanda suggested making Pietro a meal without using magic, so her brother could see how much she had improved outside of magic. Pietro was worried about this. As far as he knew, Wanda's only food-service experience had been at a fries shop run by foreigners. To get that job, Wanda had had to work as both cashier and cook—aside from learning how to take loose change from the register without being noticed, the only thing she had learned was how long fries needed to stay in the fryer. Every time she cooked after leaving the castle was a challenge for her. Especially after studying alchemy under Salomon, Pietro worried even more that she would toss magical herbs into the pot. After all, he had personally heard Salomon teach her which herbs could be used in cooking.
Back then, he had laughed foolishly, never realizing that day had determined today's outcome. It gave him a new understanding of so-called fate. Pietro glanced at the
