As the surface hangar doors slowly closed, the fluorescent lights around them flickered on one by one, and the entire base's landing pad filled with the desolate, dusty smell unique to abandoned buildings. Agent Coulson quickly swept his gaze over the agents who had come to greet them. To his surprise, he did not see the person he wanted to see. "Where's Fitz?" he asked. "I brought people to help him. These scientists need to coordinate with him."
"He's following up on leads about The Monolith." Barbara shrugged.
Ever since Fitz had seen the Video Recording of The Monolith swallowing Jemma Simmons, the young physicist had gone mad trying to find any clue connected to it. Sometimes, he even searched through ancient legends instead of using scientific methods to analyze The Monolith's physical properties. Many considered that behavior insane. But they could understand it—Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons, that shy young couple, had practically lifted the last veil between them and were just about to be together when this happened. No one could accept that.
"I need him. Tell him to get ready." Agent Coulson did not directly expose Barbara's cover for Fitz. Instead, he signaled Barbara and Melinda May with his eyes. "I'm taking our guest to see The Monolith now."
He stepped aside so his companions stationed at the base could see the person slowly approaching behind him. Under the harsh lights of the Assault Transport, they could only make out a huge, indistinct black silhouette. Heavy and silent, the figure resembled a longsword. Salomon had already donned the armor crafted by Malphas aboard the Helicarrier. Though armor made with Vibranium alloy and Martian technology was not as precious as that Uru Metal Power Armor, there were still very few things in the world capable of breaking it.
