At the top of the spiral staircase lay the source of the waterfall: a circular pool. In its center sat an exquisitely crafted spherical device, made of vine-like patterns of gleaming iron and silver, along with blue glass curved to perfection. Half of it was submerged in the endlessly flowing water. Anyone could tell it was a magical device, because the water in the pool defied gravity and flowed upward into the sphere.
"I think I remember this thing." The boy drew in a sharp breath. "I know how to use it."
"Go, quickly." The moment the boy said that, Salomon immediately tensed up.
Whenever the boy remembered something, it meant they were one step closer to unraveling the mystery. Fimbulwinter Mountain held all the answers. In order to stop them from reaching Fimbulwinter, certain powerful creatures from the upper and lower planes had even joined forces to kill the boy. The Arcanist and the Witch both placed their hands on their weapons. The boy was well aware of the danger as well. He walked toward the exquisite marble platform extending into the pool and toward the device, remaining highly alert all the while. It was an endearing trait. Salomon did not like working with people who lacked professional combat discipline—such as S.H.I.E.L.D. at present. Every time he saw their sloppy bearing, his blood pressure rose several times over. The boy reached out and touched the blue glass surface. In the next instant, a flash of light sucked him into the device. After his initial panic, he quickly calmed down.
"Stop, I'm fine!" he shouted hurriedly, lest Salomon and the Witch overreact and destroy the device with their weapons.
