Wanda carefully pushed open the door to a room in the New York Sanctum and slipped inside on tiptoe.
The lights were off. The enormous sofa seemed to breathe like a beast crouching in the darkness. The air was thick with incense and all sorts of scents Wanda could not describe. Only the constantly flickering television light and the exaggerated, insincere laughter from the drama filled the room. The young witch walked toward the side of the sofa, feeling as though she had entered some bizarre chamber where everything was probing her thoughts. Lady of Calamity had removed her mask and kept pressing the remote, seemingly unaware of Wanda's arrival—Salomon had left Wanda in the New York Sanctum while he went to search for clues, opening a portal to her Penthouse Apartment before leaving. Yet Wanda had not immediately gone home. Instead, she had asked Master Daniel where Lady of Calamity's room was. Reaching this place was no easy task. Many rooms in the New York Sanctum led to places ordinary people could scarcely imagine, and taking a wrong turn could leave someone lost forever, unable to return to the real world.
