Although Nick Fury had been granted permission to move about freely, the restrictions imposed on him by the City of Immortals had not lessened in the slightest. Not only had Salomon locked his treasured pager in a safe, but an electronic collar had also been fastened around his neck to monitor his condition at all times. The former S.H.I.E.L.D. director gave a self-mocking smile. These were all methods S.H.I.E.L.D. had once used on others; he had never dreamed that he would one day suffer the same fate. Still, compared with the Skrull prisoners, he was incredibly fortunate. He had not suffered much and faced few restrictions. Other than being forbidden from contacting Skrulls, he could wander freely through the City of Immortals unless he encountered a restricted area.
Such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs building, the Sisterhood convent, research departments, armories, power plants, the Virus Laboratory, Biological Weapon laboratories, and the auxiliary complexes attached to those buildings... That was nearly half of the City of Immortals. But there were also plenty of pleasant sights outside the restricted zones: public observatories and libraries, bars run by disabled veterans, museums displaying some relics of the Brotherhood of the Shield, Da Vinci's manuscripts, the first draft of the Mona Lisa, first editions of books Isaac Newton had left behind while deriving universal gravitation—collections and artworks that would drive every collector in the outside world mad. There were also geothermal hot springs and an empty opera house. When the Brotherhood of the Shield built this underground city, they had done everything possible to display all the wisdom humanity had accumulated throughout its history. The brilliance of science and art still shone upon those buildings that had not been destroyed.
