Background & History

Early Medical Training

Shizune was Kazekaze Genma's desk mate at the Ninja Academy for at least a year. Already interested in medical ninjutsu, she secretly studied human anatomy and had begun training under Tsunade, Konoha's foremost medical ninja. When Genma invited her to study at Konoha Hospital, she agreed to a partnership in which they would exchange training experience and improve together. 3

At the hospital, Shizune trained on animal subjects, practicing the Healing Technique while Genma practiced the Hemostasis Technique. She was respectful toward Genma's mother, Ritsuka, immediately addressing her as “Auntie Ritsuka.” 3

Tsunade acted as Shizune's guardian and mentor, taking her home after the hospital sessions. Even when Tsunade mistrusted Genma's motives, Shizune defended his dedication to learning medical ninjutsu and explained that he pursued it to improve his chakra control. 3 5
