Background

Tsunade is the granddaughter of Senju Hashirama and the grandniece of Senju Tobirama. By the time Genma meets her, the Senju Clan has largely vanished, and she has lost both her younger brother, Nawaki, and her lover. These losses, together with dissatisfaction toward Sarutobi Hiruzen, contribute to her self-destructive drinking and hemophobia. 3 49 50

Despite her condition, Tsunade continues researching advanced medical ninjutsu. Genma's questions about Yang Release help her identify that her over-healing problem stems from insufficient control over the intensity of her nature transformation.
