Background / History

Kakashi was already an exceptional Academy student, using Shadow Clones to attend class and seeking early graduation because he disliked wasting time. After fishing with Genma, he accepted that further Academy study and training would still benefit him, deciding to postpone graduation. 1

He trained extensively with Genma, teaching him aspects of the Hatake family's taijutsu, shurikenjutsu, kenjutsu, and Lightning Release while learning Genma's chakra-control methods and unusual techniques in return. Their shared training developed into a close friendship, fellow-disciple bond, and rivalry. 4 13 14

When his father, Hatake Sakumo, returned from a failed classified mission after abandoning it to save endangered comrades, Kakashi was outraged by the prospect that Sakumo could be blamed.
