"Sir, we've searched the entire town, but we haven't found the mysterious man." Tashigi, standing before the desk, reported to him.
Smoker nodded and, feeling irritable, lit a cigar.
They could now confirm that a mysterious group with unknown intentions had infiltrated Loguetown. Some of its members seemed to possess an ability similar to hypnosis.
What were those people after? What did they want with Loguetown?
The victims had nothing in common with one another, and none of them were important figures. Smoker couldn't make sense of why the mysterious group had targeted them at all.
"Should we report this to headquarters?" Tashigi asked, watching the silent Smoker.
"Not for now. We don't know enough yet, and we haven't found any information about them." Smoker shook his head.
Just as Smoker was puzzling over the mysterious group's motives, a knock suddenly sounded at the door. At his instruction, a Navy chief petty officer opened it and came inside.
"Report, sir! The mysterious man you asked us to search for has appeared. He wants to see you."
At those words, Smoker rose excitedly from his seat.

"On the training ground downstairs."
Smoker hurried to the window behind and to the side of him, pulled the curtains aside, opened the window, and looked down.
