But after observing for a while, he understood the official's predicament and learned that the seeds he had brought the villagers were a new variety of wheat recently developed in the Land of Light. It produced higher yields and could withstand strong winds.
He had forced the new wheat seeds on the island to increase the land's output and raise the villagers' incomes.
There was no doubt he had the villagers' interests at heart. But when faced with villagers who were so stubborn as to be almost foolish, simple explanations had lost their effect. The official had no choice but to use the authority at his disposal to force the seeds upon them.
This incident gave Aokiji something new to think about.
When dealing with stubborn villagers, was it sometimes futile to rely solely on kindness and equal dialogue? Could an official use his authority to forcefully implement his policies?
But this also gave Aokiji more to consider. If officials insisted on their policies and used their authority to force them through every time they clashed with villagers, how could anyone ensure that the officials weren't making mistakes?
These latest experiences had given Aokiji fresh perspectives to consider. Just as he felt he had found his path, he also felt a wave of uncertainty.
The path lay right before him, but an impenetrable fog seemed to shroud the way ahead. Aokiji wasn't sure whether the path he saw was the right one.
With more questions and more thoughts, Aokiji continued his travels.
