Background

At age five, Hinata is timid and frequently overwhelmed by embarrassment, to the point that steam rises from her head when Uchiha Zhan catches her after she nearly falls. At the time, she has just been defeated by Neji and is planning to run away from home. 16

She confides in Zhan that Neji trains against her without restraint and that she fears her father, Hiashi, would simply call her useless and demand more training. Zhan listens to her concerns and pushes her to stand up for herself rather than accept weakness as her fate. 17 18

His influence changes her relationship with Hiashi. Instead of shrinking from her father, Hinata openly challenges his tolerance of the Caged Bird Seal and demands that he choose reform over preserving the Hyuga Clan’s old order.
