Background

The Sage of Six Paths distributed his chakra throughout the Ninja World, creating a system in which every ninja became a “miniature God Tree” and carried a mark tied to his will. Chakra users, particularly those with stronger bloodlines, are portrayed as increasingly susceptible to his influence; he can allegedly be reborn through any ninja whose chakra retains his characteristics 59 96 110.

He established the Pure Land as a private domain detached from the living world. Souls of dead ninjas are prevented from reincarnating, gathered there, and used to strengthen him; Death Gods function as repositories for negative emotions while he absorbs refined spiritual energy and chakra-derived gains 59 83 111.

His long-term objective was to turn the Ninja World into the foundation of a new universe under his control. To complete that plan, he needed the world’s incarnations, Indra and Asura, to settle their conflict so that he could harvest and internalize the Yin and Yang Authorities 135 143 144.
