Refuse to Become King

Early the next morning, dire news spread through the Royal Court of Camelot.

The Knight King who had ruled Britain for thirty years, Uther Pendragon, had passed away.

Before his death, King Uther had plunged his sword into the Knight's Cemetery, declaring that whoever could draw it would be the new King of Britain.

After King Uther was laid to rest, the court mage announced his departure from the Royal Court of Camelot to search for Britain's new king; vanishing along with him was the lord of the Chalk Knights, Count Anno.

Before leaving Camelot, he had disbanded the Chalk Knights, an order that had rendered illustrious service to Britain.

These pieces of news combined to ignite all of Camelot.

Anno, accompanied by Lancelot and Merlin, walked along the road toward the home of Sir Ector.

They knew exactly who the next King of Britain would be; the claim of searching was merely a pretext to slip away.

With King Uther dead, Camelot was in a state of leaderlessness, and if the two of them were to try and control the situation with their current status, they would only become targets for everyone.

Although Anno possessed great strength and held real power, he truly did not want to wade into the murky waters of politics; was raising children at home every day not better? To be an honest, isolated military official was the best choice for Anno.

Artoria's abilities were still slightly lacking, so he wanted to take the three children on an impromptu journey with Merlin to hone their skills.

Kay was the eldest of the three and also the most outgoing.

Lancelot, a boy prone to shyness, was not weak in strength, but often appeared too rash.

As for Artoria, she still had many lessons left to learn, and Merlin would need to instruct her for another year.

"Are you truly not planning to give that sword a try? Just as the King said, you possess the qualifications to become the King of Britain." A smile never left the corners of Merlin's mouth.

"Indeed, Father," Lancelot chimed in.

"Quiet, Lancelot." Anno cast a stern glance at Lancelot before turning his head to look helplessly at Merlin. "Becoming the King of Britain is not my destiny, Merlin. It would be best not to speak of such things again."

Lancelot scratched the back of his head and gave an awkward cough.

"Very well." Merlin did not mind in the slightest, merely smiling.

Camelot Royal City.

The former princess, Morgan le Fay, arrived at the Knight's Cemetery.

She gazed at the Golden Sword of Victory embedded in the Meteorite Iron, her expression as gloomy as a stagnant pool.

Yet, she stepped forward, her slender fingers wrapped in black gloves gripping the hilt.

With a slight exertion of force, the sword did not budge.

Exerting all her strength, the sword still remained motionless.

Morgan le Fay gritted her teeth in hatred, let out a cold snort, and left the Knight's Cemetery.

It seemed her dear father had never intended to pass the throne to her.

The crowd watching from the shadows saw Morgan le Fay fail to draw the sword and rushed to spread the news.

They had not dared to draw the sword before, fearing the Princess Morgan le Fay.

But now that she had failed, they reasoned that by invoking King Uther's words, they could draw it themselves and become the King of Britain.

Their already greedy hearts became even more unbridled.

In an instant, the Knight's Cemetery was packed to overflowing.

The graves of their ancestors were trampled flat and trodden upon.

Many knights tried one after another to pull out the Sword of Royal Selection, but not a single one succeeded.

"Only the most perfect knight can draw this sword," one knight who had failed to draw it said dejectedly before slinking away.
