After several seconds of standoff, Cerberus opened his gaping maw like a black hole. Oceannus warily raised the Sea Bow and stirred his divine power.
Then Cerberus said, "Who are you?"
Oceannus's brain crashed for several seconds.
"Wait, I think I know who you are." Cerberus's huge head swayed, and a trace of human-like seriousness appeared in his eyes. "A human body, yet divine power flows through it. You're the son of Lord Poseidon, aren't you?"
Oceannus froze. "I..."
What was going on? Why did this feel a little wrong?
"What do you want with me, demigod?" Cerberus sounded like a middle-aged man. As he spoke, flames continued to spill from his mouth.
"Well, I just wanted to ask why you, the guardian of the gates of the Underworld, are here." Oceannus scratched his head and pointed at Cerberus.
"Oh, that? I'm on annual leave, so I came up to the surface to have some fun and taste the fresh flavor of surface Demonic Beasts." Cerberus seemed to be in a pretty good mood.
"Annual leave?" Oceannus stopped thinking.
"When I signed my contract with Lord Hades, we agreed that I'd get fifteen days off at the start of every dry season. It's called annual leave. I work around the clock, twenty-four hours a day. Can't I take ten-odd days off a year?" Cerberus rolled his eyes. "And you, demigod kid, what are you looking for me for? This is legitimate leave, the kind even the great gods approve of."
"But if you leave the gates of hell, who guards them?" Oceannus felt that something was off, but he couldn't put it into words.
"Relax, I temporarily produced a bunch of offspring to watch the place." Cerberus was remarkably easygoing, saying whatever came to mind.
