The Zolgen Family was unquestionably one of the Clock Tower's distinguished houses. Founded in 1550 by its first patriarch, Machiri Zolgen, the family had weathered centuries of hardship and had now been passed down through twelve generations.

Even before Machiri Zolgen, his adoptive elder brother, teacher, and father-in-law, Adelson Falgao, had likewise been an exceptionally accomplished mage. And Adelson Falgao's father, Lawrence Anno Falgao, though not a mage himself, had still achieved greatness in the non-mystical world.

In short, this was an outstanding family fully deserving of the word "exceptional," and it held considerable influence within the Clock Tower.

As a distinguished house, the Zolgen line possessed the special magical attribute of [Gem], inherited from Adelson Falgao. In addition, some members of the Zolgen Family possessed water-aspected magecraft. However, through a special hereditary magecraft developed by the first patriarch's wife, Olga Zolgen, the Zolgen Family was guaranteed to produce a descendant with gem-aspected magical power every other generation.

Those who possessed gem-aspected magical power could study and wield the Zolgen Family's unique magecraft—

It was not conventional gem magecraft, but a unique form of magecraft that merely shared its name. Exclusive to the Zolgen Family, its full name was [Gems create magic]—that is, magecraft that created gemstones.

[Gem] did not refer solely to gemstones, but broadly encompassed gemstones, pearls, a small number of precious metals—gold, silver, platinum—and other base materials considered [highly valuable].
