Lawrence cracked his eyes open, but pain made him furrow his brow, and he immediately shut them again.
"Urgh..."
Pain.
His entire body hurt. Even if he wanted to make a sound, his chest and lungs were wracked with agonizing pain.
"Big sister, are you awake?" A little girl's voice rang out beside Lawrence's ear.
Lawrence slightly opened his eyes and looked to the side. He could vaguely make out a little girl with pale pink hair standing beside him, watching him with a worried expression.
"You, are—urgh—!"
"Cough, cough—cough—! Blegh!"
Lawrence had only spoken a single sentence when his chest suddenly felt as though it were on fire. The excruciating pain made him cough uncontrollably, and he spat out a huge mouthful of black blood.
"Hah... ah... ah..."
He panted heavily, his eyes wide as he endured the pain and kept himself from crying out.
The pink-haired little girl worriedly patted Lawrence's head, then ran outside the house. Before long, she returned with some sheets of paper and helped Lawrence wipe the blood from his nose and mouth.
"Th-thank you," Lawrence said politely.
He had more or less figured out his current situation.
"There's a bottle of medicine tied around my neck." Lawrence tried his best to keep speaking from aggravating his injuries, his voice extremely quiet.
The pink-haired girl understood what Lawrence meant. She removed the gem potion from his neck and fed it to him.
The gem potion's effects were powerful. Lawrence's broken bones, shattered and displaced organs all recovered under its effects, though the pain remained intense.
"Urgh... ha..." Lawrence spat out the last mouthful of clotted blood stuck in his throat and sat up. At last, his eyes could see clearly again.
"That's wonderful, big sister! You've finally recovered!" The pink-haired little girl looked delighted.
