Background
Ritsuka was an ordinary teenager before becoming caught up in Chaldea's crisis. During the emergency Spiritron Transfer to the burning Fuyuki Singularity, he traveled with Mash Kyrielight and Fou despite having little understanding of Singularities, magecraft, or Servants. He soon summoned Anno without intending to do so. 115 116 117
After Fuyuki, Dr. Roman entrusted Ritsuka—Master Candidate No. 48 and Chaldea's only available Master candidate—with the task of restoring seven Singularities. Although he initially doubted whether he was fit to command Mash and Anno, Anno's reassurance helped him accept the responsibility. 129 154
Ritsuka trained continuously between missions, studying historical figures and magecraft while improving his physical condition and ability to support Servants. His role grew from a hesitant survivor into a field commander able to organize Servant deployments, assess enemy weaknesses, and make decisions under pressure. 746 1036 1060
He completed the Grand Order and helped save humanity and the Earth. Because the scale of his achievement could draw the Mage's Association's scrutiny, Chaldea chose to conceal him and Mash; Ritsuka accepted the decision, insisting that he had never saved the world alone. 1677 1685
Even after the restoration of Human Order, Ritsuka remained involved in further crises. He experienced transfer interference, became trapped in the closed world connected to Shimosa, and later acquired the means to continue summoning and deploying former allies through Spirit Origin Portraits and Spirit Origin Shadows. 1697 2189 2423
Appearance
Ritsuka is an orange-haired human teenager. His ordinary appearance contrasts with the Mystic Codes, Command Spells, and magical equipment he carries into high-risk operations. 129 238
- Orange hair. 129
- Bears three Command Spells on the back of his right hand when restored. 1633
- Commonly wears Chaldea-designed Mystic Codes during Spiritron Transfers. 238
- Later carries a simplified Divine Authority Seal capable of firing mana-gem ammunition. 1546 1701
Personality
Ritsuka is brave without being fearless. He is visibly frightened by the horrors surrounding him and has admitted that he is not naturally composed under pressure, yet he repeatedly chooses to act anyway. 115 262 1596
His confidence developed gradually. Early on, he questioned whether he deserved to be Mash and Anno's Master; soon afterward, he was issuing clear battlefield orders and entrusting Anno with decisive objectives. 129 130
He is compassionate toward both allies and enemies. Ritsuka rescued Hassan of Serenity despite the danger posed by her poison, spoke calmly with Shuten Douji despite her nature, and refuses to reduce his Servants to tools or legends alone. 1184 2155 2005
Ritsuka is also modest about his accomplishments. Though recognized as humanity's savior, he credits the people and Servants who fought beside him rather than claiming the victory for himself. 1685
Abilities & Skills
Master of Chaldea
Ritsuka can form contracts with Heroic Spirits, supply them with magical energy, and coordinate their use in combat.
- Summoned Anno unexpectedly in Fuyuki and later performed independent Servant summons, including Hijikata Toshizo and Antonio Salieri. 117 154 452 1710
- Commands a highly varied roster of Servants and assigns them specialized roles based on the situation. 1060
- Can use Command Spells for emergency interventions, such as summoning Leonidas I to block the Mage King's attack. 1663
- Has a practical limit: controlling too many Servants causes physical strain, including trembling hands. 463
Tactical Analysis and Leadership
Ritsuka observes before acting and adapts plans to incomplete or changing intelligence.
- Chose to investigate the historically impossible battle near Rome only after observing it and consulting Chaldea. 442
- Defined tactical requirements for a North American Servant summon: mobility, group-command capacity, and individual strength. 1036
- Deduced that a remaining Heroic Spirit Swordmaster was using threats and rumors to destabilize Shimosa. 2119
- Identified Minamoto no Raikou's Rider-class weakness: her lack of a mount and overreliance on brute force. 2161
Support Magecraft
Though not a full magus, Ritsuka can perform basic emergency support and healing magecraft after extensive training.
- Uses support spells to enhance allied combatants, including Miyamoto Musashi and Hozoin Inshun. 2070
- Can use emergency healing and support incantations, but remains less capable in magecraft than dedicated magi. 1633
- His Magic Circuits adapted to Shimosa's closed domain, allowing Command Spell use despite the world's abnormal conditions. 2189
Spirit Origin Shadow
Ritsuka can manifest Spirit Origin Shadows based on the Spirit Origin Portraits of Servants with whom he shares bonds.
- Tested control of an Enkidu Spirit Origin Shadow against Napoleon. 2542
- Must balance movement, combat awareness, precise control, and mana consumption; focusing on one can compromise the others. 2542
- His large and diverse number of contracted Servants makes selecting the right Shadow in battle especially demanding. 2538
Physical Training and Survival
Ritsuka has improved well beyond his original condition but remains physically human.
- Underwent reaction-speed training and narrowly evaded Fionn mac Cumhaill's A+-rank burst, though the attack cut off part of his left ear. 1052
- Can use vehicles and ride horses after Chaldea training. 2172
- Has used parkour-like movement to escape pursuing enemies in Florence. 1697
- Cannot match Servant stamina and is vulnerable to exhaustion after fighting beside them. 450
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Chaldea Mystic Code — A mana-adaptive Mystic Code designed by Leonardo da Vinci and crafted by Lawrence for Spiritron Transfer operations. 238
- Formal Wear Mystic Code — A final-battle “trump card” that permits up to twelve instant Servant summons in any location; its use damages Ritsuka's nervous system from within. 1633
- Simplified Divine Authority Seal — A modified magical firearm-like tool that can fire mana-gem shells and disrupt enemy attacks. 1546 1701
- Spirit Origin Portrait case — Allows continued Servant summoning and enables the later development of Spirit Origin Shadows. 2423
Relationships
- Mash Kyrielight — Ritsuka's closest companion and primary protector. They entered Fuyuki together, support one another emotionally, and continue fighting side by side through successive Singularities. 115 1606
- Sakumura Anno — Ritsuka's first documented Servant. Anno initially treats him with formal knightly deference, then becomes a source of reassurance and a trusted battlefield partner. 117 129 130
- Lawrence — Servant, medic, equipment-maker, and fiercely concerned guardian. Lawrence helps develop Ritsuka's Mystic Codes and worries whether he can ever return to an ordinary life. 238 1547 1633
