Spiritual Pressure

Reiatsu is the pressure produced and released through spiritual power. Soul Society residents are composed primarily of Reishi and souls; when spiritual pressure is not being used directly, the strength of the spiritual body becomes a decisive combat factor. 14

A sufficiently intense release can become physically destructive. Akira's connection to his Asauchi cracked floorboards, tore apart walls, and filled his dormitory with a violent gale. 11 His pressure later became so intense that responding Shinigami could not approach him. 12
