Background

Wencai is one of Uncle Nine's disciples and Qiusheng's junior martial brother. He resides and trains at Uncle Nine's Public Mortuary, where he assists with duties such as tending corpses, offering incense, preparing anti-evil materials, and operating corpse-driving tools. 10 11 19

He initially shares Qiusheng's reputation for poor cultivation progress. After Qiusheng's sudden rise in ability, Wencai becomes painfully aware of the gap between them, though Uncle Nine maintains that Wencai's main deficiency is a lack of diligence rather than inadequate talent. 6 9

Personality

Wencai is careless, impulsive, and easily frightened. He ignores Qiusheng's warning at the Banana Grove, breaks the foundation of the Three Altars Demon-Subduing Array, and is immediately possessed by the freed Demon Spirit. 4 He also repeatedly panics during supernatural emergencies, including when he mistakes Taoist Four Eyes' corpse convoy for an attacking zombie horde. 10

Despite his shortcomings, he is loyal to his fellow disciples. He carries the injured Qiusheng back to the Public Mortuary after the battle with the White-Robed Twin Ghosts, remains beside him under Uncle Nine's orders, and promptly seeks help after discovering that Ren Weiyong's corpse has escaped. 25 26
