Background
Jiang Cheng was originally a modern man before transmigrating to Omphalos, a world saturated with Honkai energy. He possessed neither combat ability nor meaningful Honkai resistance, leaving him dependent on Xilian, who took him in at the Aili Secret Pavilion and helped him survive. 1 2
After learning that the Black Tide and Black E would destroy the Aili Secret Pavilion, Jiang Cheng sought a way out rather than waiting for the disaster. The Valkyrie Strategy System activated during this period, eventually opening a portal to Earth at the cost of its remaining energy. Jiang Cheng chose to bring Xilian with him rather than leave her behind. 1 2
In Nagazora, he relied on knowledge of possible futures to approach Raiden Mei, reveal the truth behind Raiden Ryoma’s imprisonment, and steer Mei toward awakening her strength. He initially regarded his future knowledge as his main asset, but gradually recognized that information alone would not protect anyone without personal power. 3 4 23
Appearance
Jiang Cheng is a man with golden eyes. His appearance is often left disheveled after combat, with messy hair and dust-stained clothing. After his transformation, his left arm bears brilliant golden patterns resembling molten metal. 33 35 47
- Golden pupils. 33 47
- Golden, liquid-like markings coil around his left arm after becoming a Golden Descendant. 35
- Wears a black trench coat during his later travels with Raiden Ryoma’s group. 49
- Possesses a Third Generation Battlesuit. 41
Personality
Initially, Jiang Cheng is self-aware about being lazy and accustomed to being cared for by Xilian. Faced with Omphalos’ impending destruction and the dangers of Nagazora, however, he becomes highly pragmatic, calculating routes to survival while seeking enough power to alter the tragedies he knows are coming. 1 2 23
He does not treat prophecy as absolute. Jiang Cheng considers the future he sees to be one possibility and uses it as an intelligence advantage, selectively sharing information when he believes revealing more would be dangerous. 39
Jiang Cheng is empathetic toward people whose suffering he understands, particularly Raiden Mei and Kiana. He supports Mei through her trauma and reassures Kiana about the hardships of her search for Siegfried. 5 30 47 Conversely, he is merciless toward people he judges irredeemable, taking satisfaction in defeating Welt’s clone and inflicting prolonged punishment on Cocolia for her actions against Mei and Nagazora. 27 29
