At this moment, the entire ground of Maine was covered in black mist one meter high. Below that one meter was hell, filled with all manner of eerie wails.
At some unknown depth beneath the surface, Tremors and crashing sounds rang out from time to time, as though the earth of the entire state were suppressing something.
The residents throughout the state were alarmed and growing increasingly suspicious.
"Hey, Kona, did you hear? They say a world-ending devil is sealed beneath Maine."
At the ventilation window of a three-story building, two men leaned out from opposite sides of a wall, gazing at the incomparably dense black mist on the ground. Cigarettes hung between their fingers as they smoked and chatted with sighs.
"I know. They say the seal has loosened!"
"Listen to those crashing sounds. That thing is making them. The guardian spirit of this land is helping us."
A firearm lay beside each of them. They had already discovered a pattern: the monsters in the black mist would not leave its range, and they were not particularly strong.
At the very least, no large monsters had appeared so far.
So long as they remained one meter above the ground, they were safe.
"Haah, I wonder when this madness will finally end. Does humanity even have a future?" Kona, the bearded neighbor across from him, sighed.
"Who cares? Live one day at a time. Enjoy the present."
The man speaking stubbed out his cigarette, picked up his shotgun, and pulled the trigger at the corner below without hesitation.
A tentacle covered in red mucus and lined with sharp teeth had just reached toward the wall and emerged from the black mist when it was blasted apart by a single shot.
The bizarre tentacle turned into bloody scraps that splattered everywhere,
