Lu Ren was born into extreme poverty before the Huang Family discovered his Grade B Superior Bone Structure and sponsored his martial training at Wei Yuan Hall. Initially shy and insecure, he was nevertheless the most naturally gifted youth in his intake. His rapid mastery of the Turtle-Snake Great Stance quickly earned him resources, senior disciples’ attention, and Luo Dehu’s loyalty. 5 10 11

His success transformed his temperament. As his funding rose and he gathered Qi in two months, he became proud, ambitious, and increasingly concerned that Xu Yang might threaten his standing with the Huang Family. The family hired Lu Ren as a retainer martial artist instead of Xu Yang, giving him a fifteen-tael monthly fee and a public banquet. 16 27 28

Lu Ren’s relationship with the Huang Family collapsed after he refused to marry the Huang young lady to whom he was betrothed following her assault by Jade Butterfly. Her subsequent suicide triggered a major conflict, and Lu Ren left the Huang Family for the Gu Family, gaining a reputation for abandoning the family that had raised him. 43 69 157

He and Xu Yang met during the Martial Exam Dragon Ascent preliminary round. Lu Ren began as a shy youth with an inferiority complex, but early recognition and generous cultivation resources made him confident, heroic, and eager to be treated as a leader. He understood the value of followers and initially sought to win over promising peers such as Xu Yang and Zhang Yong. 5 11 12

His confidence repeatedly turned into arrogance. He was highly sensitive to comparisons with Xu Yang, used Luo Dehu to discredit him after his Qi Gathering breakthrough, and publicly flaunted his own Major Success in Qi Gathering. 29 30 63
