Background / History
Lu Ren was born into extreme poverty before the Huang Family discovered his Grade B Superior Bone Structure and sponsored his martial training at Wei Yuan Hall. Initially shy and insecure, he was nevertheless the most naturally gifted youth in his intake. His rapid mastery of the Turtle-Snake Great Stance quickly earned him resources, senior disciples’ attention, and Luo Dehu’s loyalty. 5 10 11
His success transformed his temperament. As his funding rose and he gathered Qi in two months, he became proud, ambitious, and increasingly concerned that Xu Yang might threaten his standing with the Huang Family. The family hired Lu Ren as a retainer martial artist instead of Xu Yang, giving him a fifteen-tael monthly fee and a public banquet. 16 27 28
Lu Ren’s relationship with the Huang Family collapsed after he refused to marry the Huang young lady to whom he was betrothed following her assault by Jade Butterfly. Her subsequent suicide triggered a major conflict, and Lu Ren left the Huang Family for the Gu Family, gaining a reputation for abandoning the family that had raised him. 43 69 157
He and Xu Yang met during the Martial Exam Dragon Ascent preliminary round. Though Lu Ren proposed a restrained fight so that neither would be too injured to continue, Xu Yang defeated him and advanced. Lu Ren later returned to Wei Yuan Hall having mastered Wind-Thunder Force and ultimately became one of the Ten Heroes. 74 79 85
After being expelled from Sharp Wind Hall and abandoned by Gu Haoming and Cao Rong, Lu Ren hardened himself through solitary cultivation in the Cloud Ridge Mountains. His progress accelerated: he reached Minor Accomplishment and then Great Completion Gang Qi, defeated Top Ten Talent Su Zhe, and later entered Marrow Cleansing. 106 117 142 164 174
Lu Ren’s greatest aptitude proved to be weapon forging. His talent won him Ironfloat Elder’s personal tutelage at Separating Fire Peak, allowing him to rebuild his prestige by forging Half-Spirit Weapons, Spirit Weapons, and eventually a mid-grade Spirit Weapon. Heavenly Strategy Academy admitted him through this forging talent despite reservations about his martial potential. 196 231 282 297 371
His rivalry with Xu Yang ultimately became lethal. Feeling overshadowed by Xu Yang’s superior martial and weapon-forging talent, Lu Ren allied with Shen Lian to ambush him in Jade Dragon Mountain. Xu Yang revealed his Heavenly Origin Fourth Layer cultivation, Azure Dragon Tyrant Body, and Dragon Elephant Heart Scripture, killed Shen Lian, then killed Lu Ren after Lu Ren begged for his life. 445 448
Personality
Lu Ren began as a shy youth with an inferiority complex, but early recognition and generous cultivation resources made him confident, heroic, and eager to be treated as a leader. He understood the value of followers and initially sought to win over promising peers such as Xu Yang and Zhang Yong. 5 11 12
His confidence repeatedly turned into arrogance. He was highly sensitive to comparisons with Xu Yang, used Luo Dehu to discredit him after his Qi Gathering breakthrough, and publicly flaunted his own Major Success in Qi Gathering. 29 30 63
Despite his opportunism, Lu Ren was resilient and capable of adapting after setbacks. Abandoned by former allies and humiliated by stronger disciples, he endured harsh solitary training, developed a more restrained demeanor, and remade himself through weapon forging. 79 117 142 196
His eventual recovery did not erase his fixation on Xu Yang. He viewed Xu Yang as the obstacle to his reputation, future, and status at Heavenly Strategy Academy; this resentment led him to join Shen Lian’s assassination attempt. 434 448
