Background
The Purple Sun Sect has existed for hundreds of years. Its past sect leaders, elders, and grand elders have produced extensive family lines, while Qingyang City grew from a village into a city inhabited by descendants and families of sect disciples. The city is considered part of the sect’s territory. 83
The sect recruits martial artists through the Martial Exam Preliminary. Those who obtain Dragon Ascent qualifications enter as outer sect disciples, beginning a three-year trial period before they may seek acceptance from an elder of one of the Four Peaks as inner sect disciples. 77 83 129 190
Although it is the only sect in the six neighboring counties and exercises substantial local influence, its members acknowledge that it is comparatively small within Great Xia and does not rank among Cloud Province’s middle-tier sects. 195 297
Organization
Four Peaks
| Peak | Specialty and inheritance | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Heavenly Authority Peak | Sword techniques; the Purple Sun True Scripture | Holds sect authority, and every sect leader originates from this peak. The Purple Sun True Scripture is reserved for the sect master and their designated successor. 83 184 |
| Separating Fire Peak | Fist and palm techniques, weapon forging; the Separating Fire Technique | Its treatment is second only to Medicine King Peak. The peak’s core inheritance requires Heavenly Origin cultivation before it can be practiced. 83 192 |
| Medicine King Peak | Alchemy, spiritual-herb cultivation, and medicine; the Azure Wood Formula | The wealthiest peak, but difficult to enter. Its inheritance is less offense-oriented than those of the other peaks. 83 |
| Beast King Peak | Blade techniques, body tempering, and exotic-beast husbandry | Supplies the sect with exotic-beast meat and blood. Its disciples have the highest mortality rate among the Four Peaks. 83 |

Discipleship and Resources
Outer Sect
New outer sect disciples receive identity tokens, sect rules, lodging, and Qi-Boosting Pills upon registration. 84
- Outer disciples receive three Qi-Boosting Pills per month. 83
- They earn contribution points through missions, which can be exchanged for martial arts, pills, cultivation opportunities, and other resources. 83 162
- Heavenly Wind Valley is a major cultivation ground; disciples may spend contribution points to cultivate there when the sect opens it. It is especially valuable for Gang Qi martial artists attempting Marrow Cleansing. 201
- Outer disciples may leave the mountain gate by presenting their identity token. 90
- The Outer Sect Grand Competition offers inner-sect advantages; its top three are exempted from assessment missions and may select a Cultivation Method from the second floor of the Scripture Depository. 128
Inner Sect
After three years in the outer sect, disciples may petition the Four Peaks for apprenticeship. Acceptance by an elder grants inner sect status and access to the sect’s true inheritances. 129 190
- Inner sect disciples wear robes marked with a purple blazing sun. 192
- Newly accepted Separating Fire Peak disciples receive forging texts and training, while the peak’s core Separating Fire Technique remains inaccessible until Heavenly Origin. 192
- The sect rewards Heavenly Origin disciples preparing for the second Dragon Ascent with Spirit Weapons and opportunities to select techniques from the inheritance tower. 290
Factions and Internal Conditions
The sect is not politically unified. Its disciples come from varied backgrounds and form competing factions, making allies valuable but potentially dangerous. 78 79
Known outer-sect organizations include the Heroic Society, Dawn Society, Sharp Wind Hall, and Qingyuan Society. The Qingyuan Society is a non-binding resource-and-intelligence exchange group limited to Qingyuan County martial artists who have reached Lesser Completion of Gang Qi. 85 129
The sect’s lower ranks are notoriously perilous:
- Fellow disciples may kill each other for loot outside the mountain, particularly near the Black Market. 90
- More than ten outer disciples died within roughly three months of Xu Yang’s arrival, including the powerful Han Xing; the sect leadership did not investigate his death. 97
- Openly known murder of a fellow disciple technically warrants punishment, but the sect generally shows little concern for outer disciples’ lives. 103 108
- A class begins with roughly 360 disciples, yet it is considered fortunate if half survive the three-year outer sect term. 132
- Jiang Fan openly condemns the sect as “rotten to the core” after encountering Purple Sun Sect disciples who had ambushed their own fellows. 146
