Background

The Purple Sun Sect has existed for hundreds of years. Its past sect leaders, elders, and grand elders have produced extensive family lines, while Qingyang City grew from a village into a city inhabited by descendants and families of sect disciples. The city is considered part of the sect’s territory. 83

The sect recruits martial artists through the Martial Exam Preliminary. Those who obtain Dragon Ascent qualifications enter as outer sect disciples, beginning a three-year trial period before they may seek acceptance from an elder of one of the Four Peaks as inner sect disciples. 77 83 129 190

Although it is the only sect in the six neighboring counties and exercises substantial local influence, its members acknowledge that it is comparatively small within Great Xia and does not rank among Cloud Province’s middle-tier sects. 195 297

Factions and Internal Conditions

The sect is not politically unified. Its disciples come from varied backgrounds and form competing factions, making allies valuable but potentially dangerous. 78 79

Known outer-sect organizations include the Heroic Society, Dawn Society, Sharp Wind Hall, and Qingyuan Society. The Qingyuan Society is a non-binding resource-and-intelligence exchange group limited to Qingyuan County martial artists who have reached Lesser Completion of Gang Qi. 85 129

The sect’s lower ranks are notoriously perilous:

• Fellow disciples may kill each other for loot outside the mountain, particularly near the Black Market. 90
