Background / History

Vegeta is the son of King Vegeta and heir to the Saiyan royal bloodline. Frieza killed his father, destroyed Planet Vegeta, and used Vegeta as a weapon for roughly twenty years, leaving him fiercely attached to Saiyan pride and obsessed with strength. 56 93

As a Frieza Force warrior, Vegeta traveled with Nappa and regarded Raditz as expendable. After Kakarot used Raditz’s Scouter to mock and challenge him, Vegeta set course for Earth in anger. 40

On Earth, Vegeta found that Kakarot and the Earthlings had surpassed the strength his Scouter-based worldview had led him to expect. Piccolo overwhelmed him in close combat, forcing Vegeta to create an Artificial Moon and become a Great Ape. 44 46 47 Kakarot blinded the transformed Vegeta, severed his tail, and defeated him, but chose to let him leave alive. 48 49

His defeat changed his approach to fighting. While recovering at Frieza Force Base 79, Vegeta rejected a replacement Scouter, concluding that machines could not measure controlled ki, willpower, or a fighter’s capacity to break their limits. He then learned of the Namekian Dragon Balls and traveled to Namek to prevent Frieza from gaining immortality. 56

On Namek, Vegeta killed Cui and sought the Dragon Balls, but Zarbon’s transformed state defeated him severely.
