Background / History

Madara was the former leader of the Uchiha Clan and one of the shinobi who founded Konohagakure alongside Hashirama Senju. After losing family members in war and later falling into a philosophical conflict with Hashirama, he defected from Konoha in its fifth year, convinced that the village’s peace was temporary and inadequate. 1 59

While living in exile, Madara drunkenly intervened to save a woman from two attackers. The woman was Sakuragi Ri, originally named Senju Yeri. Madara admitted that he intended to obtain Hashirama’s power and pursue “true peace” for the ninja world, then promised to return for Yeri if he succeeded. 1

Madara ultimately returned to Yeri after learning that she was pregnant. He married her, and they had a son, Uchiha Ping. His worsening condition from Hashirama Cell rejection gradually prevented him from visiting them; by the time he had gained initial control over Wood Release, Yeri had died and Ping had disappeared. 13 126

Black Zetsu manipulated Madara through the altered Uchiha stone tablet, steering him toward the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Madara survived his battle with Hashirama through Izanagi, awakened the Rinnegan late in life, implanted it into Nagato, and used Obito to advance the Eye of the Moon Plan. 59 74
