Axis and Leman Russ sat cross-legged atop a massive, snow-capped mountain, breathing steadily with their hands resting on their knees. With eyes closed, Axis attempted to guide Leman Russ in sensing the "Ki" within his body.
"Ki is the most fundamental energy within a living being. It exists in every cell. Through practice or training, one can gradually perceive and manipulate it. Focus carefully; you should be able to feel it," Axis said slowly.
This convenient father of his had a combat power as high as 1700. With just a little guidance, he should be able to master the power of Ki with ease.
"Alright, what exactly should I do?" Leman Russ nodded.
"You must first calm your mind, feel the flow within you, find the source of that energy, and then try to set it in motion throughout your body," Axis instructed.
Leman Russ furrowed his brows, striving to follow Axis's directions. He closed his eyes, attempting to concentrate and perceive the changes within.
Yet, no matter how he tried, he could not perceive the "Ki" Axis spoke of, as if such a thing did not exist within him at all.
Strange, why can I not feel it at all?
Leman Russ tried again, refusing to believe it, but still felt nothing. The Ki that Axis described seemed non-existent.
"My little wolf cub, I cannot feel this 'Ki' you speak of. To me, it is as intangible as the air; I cannot sense any power in it whatsoever," Leman Russ said, opening his eyes.
Axis opened his eyes and looked at Leman Russ with a sense of helplessness. That made no sense!
During their recent combat, Axis had discovered that this convenient father was clearly a super combat genius.
No matter what techniques he unleashed, Leman Russ could neutralize them with perfect skill. This was not something achievable through combat experience alone, especially since no one else on this planet seemed capable of sparring with him.
Beyond being a combat power mutant, this convenient father was a gifted warrior.
A combat genius like this should be able to master Ki easily with just a little guidance.
Vegeta, also a genius warrior, had managed to grasp the power of Ki after fighting the Z Fighters on Earth just once.
With his own instruction, there was no reason Leman Russ shouldn't be able to grasp it!
"Forget it, my little wolf cub. Let's not rush this. This thing called Ki likely isn't something one can master overnight. I'll accompany you in training, and you can slowly teach me this special power," the Wolf King Leman Russ said as he stood up.
Leman Russ remained very confident in his own combat talent and mental processing capabilities. If this power could truly be acquired through learning, then by training alongside his convenient son, he would surely master it eventually.
"Fine, no need to rush this! Let's keep practicing. You'll learn it through our spars," Axis nodded.
In the days that followed, aside from eating and sleeping, Axis spent his time on the wilderness sparring with Leman Russ. After their combat training, the two would return to the mountain peak, where Axis would begin teaching Leman Russ how to perceive the power of Ki.
Leman Russ had absolutely no clue regarding the use of Ki; he could not even perceive its existence. Axis claimed it was a power possessed by every living thing, but to him, it did not seem so. This power felt unique to Axis, a strength belonging to him alone.
Axis grew anxious, even using his own Ki to enter Leman Russ's body to guide him and help him perceive the power. But strangely, while his Ki could exist within Leman Russ for a moment, it was like water without a source—it could not last. Within a mere dozen seconds, the Ki Axis injected would dissipate into nothingness.
Leman Russ could clearly perceive this power, yet he could not grasp it. His body seemed to instinctively reject it.
How can this be! Does it mean the people of this planet are simply incapable of learning Ki?
But that wasn't right! According to the Dragon Ball worldview, as long as you were a living being, you possessed Ki.
Refusing to give up, Axis conducted another experiment. He selected tribal warriors with combat powers over 10 and taught them the power of Ki, even using his own energy to guide them. The tribal warriors studied diligently and put in great effort, but just like Leman Russ, they could not grasp the power of Ki.
For six full months, no matter how Axis taught, and no matter how hard Leman Russ and the tribal warriors tried to learn, they simply could not master the power of Ki. Eventually, everyone gave up on learning it.
"Give it up, my little wolf cub. It seems this power belongs to you alone; others simply cannot learn it," Leman Russ said, patting Axis on the shoulder. He was now certain that this power called Ki belonged to the little wolf cub and was impossible for others to learn, as if it were an innate ability.
"It is truly too strange! Logically, any living organism should possess the power of Ki," Axis said, rubbing his chin.
"It seems I am unable to control this power, but we haven't come away empty-handed. At the very least, your combat power has increased quite a bit," Leman Russ noted.
Over the past half-year, Axis's combat power had soared by 350 points, reaching a total of 500. Because he practiced using Ki so frequently, Axis had developed the Flight Technique, making his use of Ki even more proficient.
"It seems you won't be able to master this power in the short term. Russ, I think there is something wrong with this planet itself," Axis said.
Having been on this planet for a year and a half, Axis had gained a deeper understanding of it. It was a very strange world. Everywhere he looked, there were traces of it having been colonized. When Axis used the Flight Technique to soar through the sky, he had discovered clear remnants of mechanical creations. They appeared to have been abandoned for many years, yet they were exceptionally advanced—clearly the marks of an interstellar civilization.
Furthermore, a year on this frozen planet was equivalent to over three years on Earth, totaling 40 months. Yet, their method of keeping time was calculated based on 365 days, with each month standardized to 30 days. The way people calculated their age was not based on the planet's own cycle, but rather 365 days to a year—this was entirely the Earth's calendar system.
This planet, Fenris, had a scent of Earth that was far too strong.
