Background / History

A Dao Body is a cultivator's vessel-based clone, cultivated beginning at the Sage stage. Without one, cultivation cannot proceed beyond the Sub-Sage realm. Ordinarily, a cultivator forms three Dao Bodies: one each for the Sub-Sage, Sage, and Great Sage stages. Each completed body represents a major increase in combat power. 175

Its strength is determined by its vessel. A life-bound Dharma treasure is considered the safest and most effective vessel because it grows alongside its owner and possesses a deep, reliable connection to them. Using external sentient artifacts is dangerous: their intelligence may seize the resulting Dao Body instead. 175 202

Chen Xuan chose the complete Nine Firmaments Swords rather than splitting the nine flying swords across separate bodies. The swords are one unified natal treasure with a single future consciousness, and using all nine avoided the risks associated with an incomplete vessel. 177

After obtaining and refining a Heaven-Reaching Jade, Chen Xuan condensed his First Dao Body. It appeared exactly like him and retained 90% of his original strength. The body could enter the Heaven-Reaching Realm, where Pure Dao Rhyme from the Heaven-Reaching Tower accelerated its otherwise difficult cultivation. 178 180 182

The First Dao Body was initially destroyed while attempting the tower's fifth floor. Chen Xuan's consciousness returned safely to his true body, while an acquired Saint Artifact was transported back through the Heaven-Reaching Jade. Since its vessel remained intact, the Dao Body could be re-formed. 183

After gaining the supreme technique Immeasurable Dao Body, Chen Xuan surpassed the normal three-body limit.
