Li Si did not begin researching the Arcane Submodule in his study. Instead, he went straight to the Magic Workshop in the mansion's basement.
It contained all sorts of magical research equipment that his predecessor had purchased at great expense. It was also quiet enough, and the servants knew better than to disturb him here.
Under the steady, clear glow of the Magic Stone Lamps, all manner of advanced devices and equipment came into Li Si's view.
"Advanced Element Stabilizer, Element Observation Instrument, Magic Pattern Recorder."
What extravagance. Even Fiss Royal Magic Academy, the kingdom's finest, might not be able to equip every advanced mage with such magical research instruments. Yet they were all here. It was hard to say whether his predecessor, as a Novice Mage, could truly make use of them.
To be safe, Li Si switched on the Superior Element Stabilizer mounted on the wall, shaped like a small radar dish, before summoning the panel and opening the Arcane Submodule.
In the game "Divine Revelation," every main class could choose a corresponding class advancement. For example, those who started as Warriors could advance into Shield Warriors, Knights, Paladins, and so on. Mages could become Fire Mages, Ice Mages, or even Golem Manipulators—those specialists in controlling magical constructs who were jokingly called "piloting mechs."
This was also one of "Divine Revelation's" defining features: there was always a class you would like, even for casual players.
Every class advancement had its own characteristics. Such advancements were more like an elevation and reinforcement of class abilities, focusing on strengthening certain aspects of a character compared to their initial main class.
Among countless class advancements, Arcanists were exceptionally unique. Rather than directly enhancing a particular ability, they gave players a path to growth through their own efforts.
Their ceiling was incredibly high, but their floor was equally low.
Based on the descriptions of some players who had advanced to Arcanists in his previous life, as well as screenshots of their Arcane Subsystems, the Arcane Subsystem could be considered an ability that enabled in-depth control and study of the four fundamental Magical Elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Wind—that made up various spells, as well as higher-order Magical Elements such as Light and Shadow.
In "Divine Revelation," the basic principle behind the various spells mages could use was to control the corresponding Magical Elements through Mental Power, aided by incantations and magic patterns, forming Spell Models—specific combinations and frequencies of Magical Elements—and thereby producing supernatural phenomena, such as forming fireballs by hand or retrieving objects from afar.
The current method for mages to learn spells was to study magical incantations, repeatedly attempt to manipulate Magical Elements to construct Spell Models, and then practice continuously until they finally mastered the spell.
But Arcanists believed that Magical Elements were constant, while every mage was unique. Thus, some people excelled at Fire Element spells, while others were skilled at control-type spells.
In the eyes of Arcanists, relying solely on rote memorization of incantations and grinding practice to master spells was the least efficient and most foolish approach.
Arcanists revered the exploration of the Deep Layer laws of Magical Elements. Why could Fire Elements arranged in this way form a fireball? Why could Fire and Earth Elements, through a particular arrangement, form the ninth-circle evocation spell Meteor Swarm?
At the same time, Arcanists would alter and adjust incantations and elemental models according to their differing affinities with Magical Elements, eventually creating unique spells best suited to their own nature.
These special spells modified by Arcanists were collectively known as Arcane.
Because Arcane better suited an Arcanist's own traits, they were often more powerful or possessed unique effects when used by that Arcanist compared to the spells before they were modified.
If an Arcanist's Exclusive Arcane possessed considerable universality and practical value while still conforming to their own nature, other ordinary mages would learn and use it, passing it down as a new spell.
For instance, Fireball Spell had originally only been a first-circle spell. Through the continuous improvements of generations of Arcanists, spells such as Exploding Fireball and Karugul Flame Bullet had gradually emerged. There was even the terrifying ninth-circle Annihilation Fireball.
Thus, Arcanists were also regarded as the inventors and explorers among mages.
Of course, according to the Arcanists' own rather pretentious way of putting it:
Power is merely a small gift received during our wondrous journey of exploring Magical Elements (°°)!
In the game of his previous life, the Arcane Subsystem naturally could not accomplish something as complex as an Arcanist adjusting spells. Players with the Arcane Subsystem could only continuously alter a spell's elemental model to explore the Arcane model with the highest compatibility with themselves.
Since every modification to an elemental model required experience points, Arcanist players jokingly called it gambling for the grand prize.
With good luck, one could create an Arcane model with over 95% compatibility on the first try. With bad luck, even after ten or a hundred attempts, one might fail to produce an Arcane model with over 80% compatibility.
Therefore, Arcanist players were weak in the early stages of every game version, able to use only Arcane from the previous level. Only after the middle and later stages, once they had adapted to and modified newly acquired spells, would they become formidable again.
Of course, that had nothing to do with Li Si now. With his luck stat of 3, he did not think the process of improving Arcane would go very smoothly.
When he opened the Arcane Submodule, what appeared before him was not the flat control screen shown in the screenshots posted by those Arcanist players, but a three-dimensional Spell Model composed of Magical Elements.
Hmm, the Arcane Subsystem feels different from my previous life. Is it because I really transmigrated into the world of "Divine Revelation," so the Arcane Subsystem has undergone new changes as well?
Li Si shook his head and stopped thinking about it. It was not something he could figure out at present. He then turned his gaze toward the many Spell Models manifested before him. Judging by the situation, they should all be spells he had already mastered.
The red particles were Fire Elements, the yellow particles were Earth Elements, the blue particles were Water Elements, and the green particles were Wind Elements. The faintly white, transparent elemental particles should be Mental Elements.
Besides those, Li Si could also see specks of white and black particles. Those must be Light Elements and Shadow Elements. As for the legendary Imperial Time Element and Space Element, he did not find them.
Li Si looked at one Spell Model made up of a cluster of Fire Element particles. This should be the Spell Model for Fireball Spell.
The Fireball Spell Model was arranged in a regular circular shape overall, with three magic-pattern circuits composed of Fire Elements running through it.
After thinking for a moment, Li Si tried adjusting the angle at which one of the magic patterns combined with the others. He then cautiously injected magic power into the model.
Before Li Si's eyes, the Fireball Spell Model grew brighter and brighter with the influx of magic power, forming a small, vivid crimson fireball. Compared with a Fireball Spell formed according to the normal Spell Model, it looked much smaller.
How was this supposed to work? Did this count as success?
I have no idea how powerful it is. Do I need to throw it at something to test it?
Suddenly, the small fireball bulged and twisted irregularly before Li Si's horrified eyes.
"Boom~~~~"
On the second floor of the mansion, inside Li Si's bedroom.
Rosie, the maid who was diligently wiping the windows, suddenly felt the floor beneath her feet tremble. She also seemed to hear the sound of an explosion.
"Strange, was that an earthquake?"
She raised her head and looked out the window. Fes Street was no different from usual, still quiet and peaceful. The milky-white pigeons in the nearby Fountain Square showed no reaction either, continuing to coo as they followed pedestrians around begging for food.
"Maybe I imagined it. How could there be an earthquake for no reason?"
Rosie shook her head and resumed cleaning with greater haste. Young Master Li Si seemed somewhat different now, so she needed to work even harder too.
But Rosie soon discovered that it had not been her imagination.
Because the tremors from the basement never completely stopped that day!
