Background / History

Ye Yuqing first appeared as the alternate personality inhabiting Asaka Akie’s body. Unlike Akie’s refined and gentle manner, Yuqing was blunt, impulsive, and confrontational. She identified herself as Ye Yuqing and allowed Fang Cheng to regard her as Akie’s older sister. The shared body bore the same red scar on its wrist, confirming that they were not separate physical individuals. 88

Originally, Akie usually controlled their body while Yuqing remained dormant. When Yuqing took over, Akie would fall into a deep sleep and later learn what happened through their diary. 91 After the Ultimate Bliss Cult incident, the two could remain conscious simultaneously for extended periods, though Yuqing later developed worsening sleep and mental-health problems. 304

A month of recurring dreams warned Yuqing that she would die soon. During this period, Tsukimi Mei, the Goddess of Wrath, secretly possessed her at night, using her body to hunt yokai and compete in an underground monster-fighting ring under the name Black Reaper. 305 310

Yuqing eventually learned that Tsukimi Mei had chosen her as a potential Proxy. She accepted the goddess’s power when Fang Cheng needed saving, becoming Tsukimi Mei’s Saintess at the cost of her soul being torn and claimed by the goddess after death. 479 483 Later, Yuqing and Akie received separate physical bodies, allowing them to exist independently for the first time. 529 530

Behind her bratty exterior, Yuqing is emotionally sensitive and deeply affected by Fang Cheng’s treatment of her. Feeling ignored by him contributed to her refusal to reveal her nightmares and condition sooner. When Fang Cheng finally apologized and promised to help, she openly broke down. 309 310

She is also courageous when it matters. Yuqing accepted Tsukimi Mei’s dangerous Proxy arrangement to save Fang Cheng, despite knowing that the agreement endangered her soul after death. 479 483
