Background / History

The Senju and Uchiha trace their feud to the Sage of Six Paths’ succession: the Senju inherited the Sage’s body through the younger brother, while the Uchiha inherited his eyes through the elder brother. The descendants of the brothers continued fighting across generations. 3

Before the alliance, the Senju held longstanding influence in the Land of Wind and northern Land of Fire. Their control over the Land of Wind’s agriculture prevented Uchiha-aligned merchants from expanding there, while Senju Hashirama’s prestige and relationships with both countries’ daimyō blocked direct Uchiha political advances. 1

Under Hashirama, the clan stabilized internally and began pursuing broader alliances, including a prospective alliance with the Uzumaki clan. Hashirama permitted Uchiha operations in the Land of Wind’s border regions as an initial concession intended to reduce the two clans’ long conflict. 2 3

The Senju initially remained cautious of the Uchiha’s Tailed Beast collection, but Hashirama chose to cooperate with Madara to seal the Three-Tails, Isobu. Madara subsequently judged Hashirama and the Senju to be partners worth working with. 12 13

Resistance to Uchiha Expansion

The Senju’s entrenched influence in the Land of Wind and Land of Fire obstructed the Uchiha Merchant Alliance’s expansion. Hashirama nevertheless allowed limited Uchiha operations along the Land of Wind border, seeking to curb further casualties from the clans’ feud. 1 2

Tailed Beast Collection

After Madara began pursuing Tailed Beasts, Hashirama chose to collect them as well rather than leave them under Uchiha control. The two clan heads cooperated against Isobu, establishing the foundation for future negotiations. 4 12 13

Alliance Negotiations

Hashirama insisted that negotiations account for the interests of all participating clans, contrasting Madara’s preference for a direct Uchiha–Senju arrangement. Their eventual agreement created an alliance framework intended to develop into a unified ninja settlement. 18 21

Founding of Konoha

In the later era, the Senju and Uchiha jointly founded Konoha Village in the Land of Fire. The village accepted ninja clans and orphans, protected bloodline clans, and elevated the Land of Fire into the strongest of the Five Great Nations. 36
