Background / History

Vegeta first appears at Capsule Corporation when Gohan arrives to retrieve Goten. He recognizes that Gohan has improved, tests him with his presence, and reveals Super Vegeta while dismissing Gohan as someone who has neglected training. His central goal is already clear: surpassing Kakarot. 5

Though Trunks secretly provides Gohan with Vegeta's combat footage and simulation unit, Vegeta allows the theft to continue so that he can learn Gohan's intentions. He initially considers it impossible that Gohan could surpass him, but becomes alarmed after sensing the immense energy of Gohan's 100x Perfect Kamehameha. 5 6

After learning that Gohan has defeated his 50% combat simulation, Vegeta personally challenges him. He begins in base form, transforms through Super Saiyan, and ultimately uses Super Vegeta and Final Flash. Gohan counters the attack and forces Vegeta to withdraw by threatening a second Ultimate Perfect Kamehameha; the two agree on a draw, though Gohan judges himself still below Vegeta at full power. 10 11 12

Vegeta later isolates himself in Capsule Corporation's Training Room, training for days without leaving or eating. His obsession with surpassing Kakarot leaves his energy unstable and his emotions strained. Gohan draws him out by telling him Kakarot will attend the World Martial Arts Tournament. 16

At the tournament, Vegeta destroys the punching machine and insists on fighting Gohan despite the danger posed by Babidi's agents. He fights Gohan at full power as Super Vegeta, but his reckless energy release makes him the agents' preferred target. Goku incapacitates him so they can drain his energy and trace Babidi. 20 21 22

Vegeta follows Goku, Gohan, and the East Supreme Kai into Babidi's ship, where he easily defeats Pui Pui. After Majin Buu revives, Vegeta attempts to destroy Buu by detonating himself, sacrificing his life; the attempt fails to harm Buu decisively. 23 27

Following the Majin Buu conflict, Vegeta agrees to fuse with Goku in an effort to defeat Gohan. As Gogeta, their combined power initially suppresses Gohan, but Gohan's later counterattack and Susanoo force the fusion to dissolve. Personality

Vegeta is fiercely proud, confrontational, and driven by the need to prove himself the strongest Saiyan. He repeatedly frames his ambitions around defeating Kakarot, dismissing weaker opponents and refusing to let threats or bystanders interrupt a desired battle. 5 16 20

His pride often becomes recklessness. He disregards the presence of spectators during his tournament battle with Gohan and continues releasing energy despite knowing Babidi's agents are watching. His refusal to retreat or dodge Gohan's Ultimate Perfect Kamehameha also leaves him exhausted. 12 20 21

Despite this, Vegeta can cooperate when overcoming Gohan becomes impossible alone. He accepts fusion with Goku after initially rejecting the idea of fighting two-on-one. He also shows attachment to Bulma and Trunks, attending to Bulma's birthday party despite claiming to be busy with training. 38
