Background

Feifei was raised alone by her mother, Lin Wanru, in Ivy Apartments. Because Lin Wanru frequently returned home late, Feifei often walked to and from school alone and occasionally waited at Shen Xing's apartment; Shen Xing would sometimes share meals with her. Despite being seven, she was accustomed to caring for her intoxicated mother herself. 3 7

Lin Wanru was murdered outside their third-floor apartment. With no known relatives and no identified father, Feifei was placed in Qiguang Orphanage, where she suffered nightmares after her mother's death. 8 22

Shen Xing visited Feifei at the orphanage, where she thanked him for bringing her mother's killer to justice and disclosed that she recognized the man from prior encounters. Wanting a stable home and trusting Shen Xing as the only person she felt cared for her, Feifei asked to be adopted. 23 24

Her maturity also serves as a protective facade. After her mother's death, she tries to limit her grief, declaring that she will only cry “the last time,” but she openly seeks Shen Xing's comfort when frightened or overwhelmed. 24 28

She is observant and willing to speak up when something feels wrong. Her fear of Song Xiaoyu proves genuine despite other staff initially dismissing her concerns, and she later notices an anomalous detail in Ye Ting's surveillance footage that most viewers miss. 28 50

Story Role

Orphanage and the Skin Face incident

While living at Qiguang Orphanage, Feifei becomes frightened by volunteer Song Xiaoyu's unnaturally sustained smile. She contacts Shen Xing directly when the staff do not believe her, leading him to investigate the orphanage. 27 28

Song Xiaoyu later enters Feifei's room and stands over her bed while Feifei hides beneath her blanket in terror. Shen Xing intervenes and alerts Li Naijing; the orphanage subsequently assigns a nurse to monitor Feifei around the clock during the investigation. 30 31

Feifei herself remains physically unaffected by the Scalp Ghost/Skin Face incident. Shen Xing contacts the orphanage afterward and learns that she is normal. 37

Adoption and return to Ivy Apartments

After the adoption is finalized, Feifei initially returns to Shen Xing's small fourth-floor rental. She proposes moving into her former third-floor home instead, citing its greater space and the fact that its mortgage had been paid off. 47 48

Although the apartment is the site of her mother's death, Feifei says she has accepted Lin Wanru's passing and intends to keep her memories privately in a diary. She and Shen Xing begin cleaning the long-vacant home together. 48 49

Ye Ting's video

Feifei watches Ye Ting's final surveillance footage and sees Ye Ting turn toward the camera lens. This is the same abnormal moment previously witnessed by Shen Xing but not by Officer Ma Jinlong, Hong Bin, or Hong Anjie. 20 26 50

Her observation prompts Shen Xing to reconsider the footage: Ye Ting may have been looking not at Shen Xing, but toward the camera's location or something in that direction. 50
