In the eastern part of the Arcane Tower Federation lay a small city called Gray Tower City. It was naturally named for the magic tower within it, the Grey Tower. A high-ranking mage named Ronald Hart had built the tower long ago, and later, residents gradually gathered around it, eventually forming the city.
It was a city characteristic of the Arcane Tower Federation, with an origin much like that of many others.
Yet it was also somewhat different. For instance, the most prominent Hart Family in the city believed neither in the great Lord of Mysteries nor in the gods of humanity, but in a somewhat obscure deity—the God of Scholars.
The God of Scholars was a subordinate god of the Lord of Mysteries, with weak divine power. The deity had few followers, the most important of whom were likely Gray Tower City, led by the Hart Family. Over the past four hundred years, through the Hart Family's efforts in developing the city and the gathering here of those who believed in the God of Scholars from every corner of the continent, the city had gradually become something akin to a holy city for the Church of the God of Scholars.
Of course, a city where fewer than half the residents believed in a given deity was hardly qualified to be called a holy city. A so-called holy city either had a deity residing within it, possessed sufficiently lofty historical status, or had faith pure enough. An example of the first was Void City, the holy city of the Church of Void Mask; an example of the second was the Supreme Tower, capital of the Arcane Tower Federation.
