Background / History

Thor is Odin's eldest son, heir to Asgard, and the original bearer of Mjolnir. Odin considered him a suitable wartime protector because of his courage and martial skill, but worried that Thor's pride and impulsiveness would make him an unfit ruler. His coronation was interrupted by a Frost Giant intrusion into Odin's Vault. 106

Determined to investigate the intrusion, Thor defied Odin and led Loki, Sif, and the Warriors Three into Jotunheim. His response to a Frost Giant's insult nearly provoked war and endangered his companions, prompting Odin to strip him of his power and exile him to Earth. 108 127

On Earth, Thor's loss of Mjolnir and godhood forced him to confront his dependence on strength and status. His willingness to sacrifice himself against the Destroyer marked his return to worthiness and restored his place as the God of Thunder. 118 127 129
