History
Ancient foundation
Green Cloud Sect’s core inheritance is the Taiji Profound Clarity Path, a cultivation method that emphasizes gradual progress and a stable foundation rather than rapid, reckless breakthroughs. 2
Its tradition holds that cultivators should maintain a firm Daoist heart, protect the common people, and slay demonic threats. Daoist Daoxuan identified this conviction and the continued emergence of talented disciples as the foundations that had sustained the sect for two thousand years. 91
Liubo Mountain and the Zhang Xiaofan judgment
During the conflict at Liubo Mountain, the sect accepted Li Xiaoyu’s proposal to act as a surprise force against the Demon Sect’s logistics and command center. The plan exploited divisions among the Demon Sect’s factions and was launched alongside Heavenly Sound Temple and Incense Burning Valley’s operations. 49
After Zhang Xiaofan was accused of possessing Heavenly Sound Temple’s Great Brahma Prajna, Green Cloud Sect convened a judgment at Jade Purity Hall. Li Xiaoyu and Zeng Shuchang invoked the historical case of Ancestor Zheng Tong and the overseas cultivator Zhen Yu, who had exchanged cultivation knowledge, to challenge the claim that learning another sect’s techniques was automatically treason. 57 62
The Green Cloud Calamity
Daoist Cangsong of Dragon Head Peak betrayed the sect and summoned the Ghost King Sect, Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, Longevity Hall, and Joyous Union Sect to attack Green Cloud Mountain. The invaders breached the first mountain gate, while the injured Daoist Daoxuan was initially unable to command the defense. 65
Li Xiaoyu took temporary command, assigning the peaks to defend key routes, protect Jade Purity Hall, treat casualties, and form the first line of resistance. The disciples subsequently held defensive sword formations against repeated assaults by the Demon Sect. 65 66
Li Xiaoyu’s Immortal-Slaying Gourd halted the attackers’ numerical advantage, while Daoist Daoxuan forcibly activated the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation to secure the sect’s survival. The victory came at immense cost, but the crisis also exposed internal rot and fostered greater unity among the peaks. 67 69 70
In recognition of Li Xiaoyu’s conduct, Daoist Daoxuan granted him rare pills, divine-weapon materials, past masters’ cultivation insights, and unrestricted access to the sect’s scripture libraries. 71
Expansion of elite forces
Following the calamity, Daoist Daoxuan chose Li Xiaoyu to organize a covert team of the sect’s most capable and trustworthy young disciples. The resulting Dawn Squad was led by Li Xiaoyu and included Lu Xueqi, Zeng Shushu, Chu Yuhong, and other Morning Sun Peak disciples. 91 96
The sect later dispatched Li Xiaoyu, Lu Xueqi, Lin Jingyu, and Zeng Shushu to investigate the Treasury of the Heavenly Emperor in the Death Swamp. Li Xiaoyu was selected because of his cultivation, composure, and prestige among the disciples. 114
Southern Border and Wilderness campaigns
When the Beast God’s resurrection devastated the Southern Border, Green Cloud Sect treated the crisis as a responsibility of the righteous path and dispatched elite reinforcements under Li Xiaoyu. 138 140
The sect later exhausted its strength to march on the Wilderness against the Ghost King Sect and the Pseudo Four Spirits Blood Array. After the war against Asura and the Demon Sect, Green Cloud Sect’s prestige reached an unprecedented height among cultivators of the Divine Land. 167 182
Leadership crisis and succession
Despite Li Xiaoyu’s wartime achievements, Daoist Daoxuan grew wary of the uncontrollable power within the Immortal-Slaying Gourd. That fear culminated in Daoxuan activating the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation against Li Xiaoyu while consumed by Demonic Obsession. 182 194
Wan Jianyi and Li Xiaoyu helped restore Daoxuan’s reason. Daoxuan then resigned as the eighteenth-generation Sect Leader and nominated the unconscious Li Xiaoyu as his successor, while Lu Xueqi assumed interim leadership. 196 202
Li Xiaoyu later awakened and was installed as the nineteenth-generation Sect Leader in a ceremony presided over by Wan Jianyi. 204
Reform and the Outer Realm crisis
Under Li Xiaoyu, Green Cloud Sect dismantled longstanding barriers between the seven branches, centralized resource distribution, and allowed disciples to move freely between peaks. The Merit Hall enabled disciples to exchange earned merit for cultivation techniques and resources; certain improved Ghost Path and witchcraft arts also became available through merit. 204 205
When Li Xiaoyu revealed the threat of the Outer Realm Demons to the sect’s core members, Green Cloud Sect committed itself to gathering the world’s wisdom and strength. It later invited Heavenly Sound Temple and Jin Ping’er’s Holy Mother Sect into a tripartite alliance, prioritizing the survival of all living beings over the sect’s reputation. 223 226
At a later point, Li Xiaoyu returned to find the original Green Cloud Sect destroyed and its surviving disciples fighting as resistance soldiers against the Demon Remains. Three hundred years afterward, a new Green Cloud Sect accepted disciples from a smaller headquarters built around the still-intact Small Bamboo Peak; the other six original peaks had collapsed. 260 290
Heritage and Defenses
Taiji Profound Clarity Path
Green Cloud Sect’s foundational Daoist cultivation method emphasizes steady advancement and solid spiritual foundations. Sudden increases in cultivation are regarded with suspicion because they may indicate dangerous Demon Sect methods. 2
Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation
The Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation is the sect’s greatest defensive foundation and has protected it for two thousand years. Daoist Daoxuan activated it during the Demon Sect invasion despite severe injuries, unleashing sword rain powerful enough to decide the battle. 69
- Draws upon the seven peaks of Green Cloud Mountain, which release seven differently colored pillars of light that converge into a single formation. 194
- Is tied to the Ancient Immortal-Slaying Sword, a weapon tainted by destructive Outer Realm Demon energy. 194 248
- Can endanger its wielder and the sect when used under Demonic Obsession. 194 198
Green Cloud Mountain’s dragon vein
A fragment of the Heavenly Emperor Seal lies within an independent space at the core of Green Cloud Mountain’s dragon vein. Ancestor Qingye fused it with the mountain’s earth veins to nourish the fragment and suppress the malevolent aura within the Immortal-Slaying Sword. 248 249
The fragment is also the source of Green Cloud Mountain’s abundant spiritual energy and the Ancient Immortal-Slaying Sword’s power. 249
