Background / History

As Green Cloud Sect Leader, Daoxuan presided over the Seven Meridians Martial Arts Tournament and took a keen interest in Li Xiaoyu's exceptional performance, calling him extraordinary. He later selected Li alongside Lu Xueqi, Qi Hao, and Zhang Xiaofan to investigate Demonic Sect activity at Kongsang Mountain. 17 26

Daoxuan initially acted as a measured and far-sighted leader. He activated the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation during a sect crisis despite his own injuries, securing Green Cloud Sect's victory. He also entrusted Li with rare cultivation resources, the investigation of the Heavenly Fiend Demon Domain, leadership of the covert Dawn squad, and the new Chief Instructor position. 69 72 90 91

His repeated use of the Ancient Immortal-Slaying Sword left demonic sword qi lodged within his primordial spirit. Though he could initially suppress it, the lingering demonic intent amplified his fear of Li Xiaoyu's growing strength and of the Immortal-Slaying Gourd. 162 182 186

After appointing Xiao Yicai as Heaven-Reaching Peak's Chief Disciple, Daoxuan ordered him to secretly monitor Li Xiaoyu. His suspicion eventually became open hostility: he lured Li to the Illusion Moon Cave Abode, demanded the Wine Gourd and half of Li's cultivation, and attacked when Li refused. 163 193

Consumed by the sword's Demonic Obsession, Daoxuan fused with the Ancient Immortal-Slaying Sword and activated the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation, endangering Green Cloud Mountain. Li Xiaoyu and Wan Jianyi ultimately prevented the catastrophe, while Li later used the Immortal-Slaying Gourd to draw out and suppress Daoxuan's demonic corruption. 194 197 199

Once restored to reason, Daoxuan accepted responsibility for his actions. He crippled half his cultivation, abdicated as Sect Leader, nominated the unconscious Li Xiaoyu as his successor, and withdrew to the Ancestral Shrine with Wan Jianyi. 202

Personality

Daoxuan was originally calm, politically astute, and deeply concerned with Green Cloud Sect's future. He recognized Li Xiaoyu's ability, Dao heart, and loyalty early on, while using the Heavenly Fiend Demon Domain trial to contain sect gossip and secure support for Li and Lu Xueqi's relationship. 90

He bore a strong sense of responsibility toward the sect and the wider Divine Land. His creation of Dawn reflected his belief that Green Cloud Sect had to confront hidden threats before an anticipated catastrophe arrived. 91

However, his fear of losing control, jealousy of Li Xiaoyu's rise, and the Ancient Immortal-Slaying Sword's Demonic Obsession gradually eroded his judgment. In his worst state, he viewed Li as an uncontrollable threat that had to be eliminated. 163 182 186
