Background / History

Lu Ping'an hatches from a Qilin egg that Lu Changsheng had nurtured for thousands of years. Rather than displaying the expected dominance of a divine beast, the newborn Qilin immediately seeks Lu Changsheng's protection. Lu Changsheng names him Lu Ping'an, gives him his surname, and accepts him as a disciple, intending for him to inherit the “Dao of Cowardice”: peace, survival, longevity, and avoidance of karmic entanglements 56.

Under Lu Changsheng's instruction, Ping'an learns the Return to Origin Breath-Concealing Art and becomes capable of suppressing his Golden Immortal aura so completely that other cultivators may mistake him for an ordinary stone or lifeless object 56 59. His master's teachings shape him into an exceptionally cautious Qilin whose first response to danger is escape, concealment, and layered traps rather than confrontation 57.
