Background / History
Thor arrives on Earth in New Mexico after being cast down from Asgard. Injured in an encounter with Jane Foster's car, he is hospitalized while Jason Bourne obtains a blood sample for Murphy's research. Thor later seeks Mjolnir at a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility but cannot lift it, leaving him devastated and convinced that he has lost his identity as the God of Thunder. 283 284
Murphy challenges Thor's belief that his power comes solely from Mjolnir, asking whether Thor or the hammer is truly the God of Thunder. The conversation becomes the basis of Thor's self-reflection. 284
After Sif and the Warriors Three reach Earth, Thor helps evacuate civilians when Loki sends the Destroyer against him. During the battle, Thor regains his conviction, recalls Murphy's words, summons Mjolnir, and returns to fighting form. He destroys the Destroyer with a hammer strike, though the attack also ruins the energy core Murphy had hoped to recover. 285 286 287
Thor subsequently assists Earth during Loki's Chitauri invasion, bringing Loki to the Helicarrier and warning the Avengers that the Tesseract can open a portal for the invading army. 291 After the Battle of Manhattan, he argues that the Tesseract should be safeguarded by Asgard, but accepts Murphy's claim over it when Murphy agrees to send him home. 300
When the Dark Elves threaten Asgard, Thor seeks Murphy's aid and forms a temporary alliance with him. He plans to draw Malekith into extracting the Aether from Jane Foster, then destroy it. Although Thor and Murphy defeat Malekith together, Thor takes the recovered Reality Stone to Odin for judgment, causing friction with Murphy. 315 316 320
Following Odin's death and Loki's apparent death, Thor accepts the Asgardian throne, despite admitting that he is not yet a qualified king. 385 His duties as king later conflict with Murphy's ambitions, particularly when Murphy threatens Asgard to force the forging of an Infinity Gauntlet. 391
Appearance
Thor is an Asgardian warrior who wears armor associated with his status and combat role. When he regains Mjolnir, lightning transforms his armor during his return to battle. 287
- Carries Mjolnir for much of the story before Hela destroys it. 379
- Later receives Stormbreaker from the Dwarf King of Nidavellir. 459
- Wields the Eternal Scepter during his coronation as king. 385
Personality
Thor is initially warlike, direct, and insufficiently reflective; Murphy characterizes him as someone who has relied on strength rather than deep thought. Losing Mjolnir forces him to question the source of his power and identity. 284
He is protective of Earth and Asgard, prioritizing civilian evacuation during the Destroyer's attack and seeking allies when the Dark Elves threaten his homeland. 286 315 As king, he feels the weight of responsibility and guilt, especially over the destruction at Nidavellir. 385 459
Thor's loyalty to Loki remains conflicted despite Loki's betrayals. He struggles to accept his brother's death, advocates confinement rather than execution when Loki is imprisoned, and is deeply affected by losses within his family. 382 458
Abilities & Skills
Asgardian Physiology
Thor possesses strength, resilience, and durability far beyond ordinary humans.
- His blood and genes are valuable enough for Murphy to pursue as material for bodily enhancement. 283 315
- He is immune to conventional gunfire to a degree comparable to Hela. 451
- He remains a top-tier combatant even among the Avengers, though Murphy considers his combat power heavily diminished without a weapon. 261 454
Lightning Manipulation
Thor commands lightning and storms, a power tied to his identity as the God of Thunder.
- His return to Mjolnir is accompanied by dark clouds, thunder, and lightning. 287
- He attacks Malekith with lightning alongside Murphy's Energy Blasts. 319
- Murphy later demonstrates lightning control gained through body enhancement based on Thor's genes, though Murphy is enhanced beyond Thor's baseline. 454
Weapon Combat
Thor is an experienced melee combatant who primarily fights with Asgardian weapons.
- Uses Mjolnir to destroy the Destroyer. 287
- Fights Malekith with Mjolnir during the Dark Elf conflict. 317 319
- Receives Stormbreaker after the destruction of Mjolnir. 459
Leadership
Thor directs and coordinates allies during crises affecting Asgard and Earth.
