Liu Lie serves as the third inner disciple of Yuan Fubai, the master of Rainbow Martial Hall. When Lin Yi enrolls at the hall, Liu Lie handles the admission process, personally reassesses Lin Yi’s bone structure as Grade B-minus, explains the importance of bone quality, and teaches him the hall’s Qi-entry method, the Long Rainbow Technique. He cautions Lin Yi that resilience matters more than talent alone. 16

He quickly takes an interest in Lin Yi’s diligence and boldness. When Lin Yi clashes with disciples connected to the Fishermen Gang, Liu Lie breaks up the confrontation, harshly rebukes the older disciples for losing to a newcomer, and offers Lin Yi a new room and the protection of his name. 18

As Lin Yi advances, Liu Lie continues to support him openly.
