Perhaps in order to make Dilos and the others withdraw the so-called summons on their own, the United States Congressional Committee had actually scheduled the hearing for three days later.

"So, you're going to attend the hearing in person the day after tomorrow?"

Inside the Sullivan Company conference room, Nick Fury looked sternly at Dilos. "If you go in person, I don't think those senators will agree to begin the hearing. They're too afraid of dying."

"So what? They want to bully some kid who doesn't know shit?" Dilos snorted, making no attempt to hide his contempt.

"No. They want to solve the problem. They just want to use more peaceful methods," Nick Fury said.

"More peaceful methods..." Dilos understood Nick Fury's meaning almost instantly and could not help but sneer. You want me to sacrifice that kid?

Though eighteen-year-old Dilos referring to sixteen-year-old Smith as a child seemed rather strange to Nick Fury, his expressionless dark face confirmed Dilos's answer.

Dilos turned to look at the impassive Nick Fury. "Nick Fury, have you all decided I'm too easygoing after these past few months, so you keep testing my bottom line?"

Nick Fury's heart abruptly skipped a beat at his words, a sense of foreboding rising within him. Then, in the very next moment, that foreboding became reality.

With a thud, Nick Fury crashed to the floor. His body felt as though it were falling apart, without even a shred of strength left. At the same time, he sensed some inexplicable pressure bearing down on him, as if an invisible force were crushing his muscles, bones, and internal organs from within. Even the willpower he had always taken pride in was utterly useless now, and he found himself unable to resist Dilos at all.

"What's happening?! Does he have psychic
