"Haven't you finished the research yet?" In the underground laboratory, Kingpin peered through the reinforced glass at several scientists who were analyzing a vial of green reagent inside a massive electronic instrument, recording data as they worked.
Beside Kingpin, a man who looked to be around thirty, exuding a calm and noble temperament, spoke respectfully: "It is not yet finished. Although we can analyze the genetic components, we cannot determine how it was synthesized. Our existing gene-implantation methods cannot replicate this serum."
"Connors, that bastard, has been under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s protection all this time..." Kingpin turned his head to look at the man. "Train, what about those idiots who caused this current situation?"
"They have already become new materials for the 'Tyrannosaurus'," Train said without hesitation. "The new results from the 'Tyrannosaurus' project have been very effective on them."
Kingpin laughed heartily upon hearing this, a flash of vindictive pleasure crossing his eyes. "I am very much looking forward to these new results. I hope they won't disappoint me again."
By the end of his sentence, Kingpin's voice carried a hint of chill.
Train lowered his head and remained silent.
Kingpin glanced at Train, saying nothing, just staring at him with eyes devoid of any emotion. Although Kingpin didn't say a word, it caused cold sweat to break out on the latter's handsome face.
Train suppressed the panic in his heart, gritting his teeth tightly as he endured Kingpin's gaze, not daring to speak. After a long while, Kingpin finally opened his mouth.
"Call him over and tell him there is a mission."
"Yes, sir." Train said hurriedly, as if granted a reprieve, then slowly backed away. He knew he had been temporarily pardoned. He had been granted his life by the most powerful and ruthless criminal kingpin in America.
The scene shifts to Dilos.
In the nearly week-long period, Dilos had initially gained control over his enhanced muscles and five senses, meaning his abilities would basically no longer spiral out of control. At this moment, he was in a small restaurant, having ordered several fine dishes to reward his stomach.
Looking at the fragrant dishes on the table, Dilos rubbed his palms together, ready to dig in.
"You aren't welcome here, you filthy yellow-skinned monster!"
Just as he was about to take a bite, a roar filled with disgust and hatred reached Dilos's ears.
Snap.
With a crisp sound, the veins on Dilos's forehead bulged slightly; he had inadvertently snapped his fork in two.
Who the hell is looking for death? Dilos couldn't help but curse aloud. Even though the body he had been reborn into was no longer Chinese, he still couldn't help but feel a surge of anger whenever he heard such slurs.
He turned around, somewhat annoyed, and looked toward the source of the sound. He discovered an Asian girl with a pale complexion standing at the entrance of the restaurant, facing a disheveled, bearded white middle-aged man. The latter was stout, wearing a white chef's apron, and his face was twisted with undisguised hatred.
"You aren't welcome here! Get out of here right now! Scram!" the middle-aged man roared, waving his finger toward the door. However, Dilos clearly noticed that the man had initially intended to push the girl, but hesitated out of some unknown fear, ultimately just pointing toward the exit.
"I've already ordered my food; I'm just taking it to go." A flash of fear and grievance crossed the Asian girl's eyes, and her voice betrayed a hint of timidity. Dilos felt as if the girl was on the verge of tears, yet for some reason, despite being terrified, she stood her ground against the man's pressure.
"A-and I am a customer, you... you cannot drive me away. Besides, please apologize for what you just said, because your words constitute racial discrimination!"
"I agree with that point." Dilos suddenly spoke up. He stood up and walked quickly to the girl's side, looking directly into the middle-aged man's shocked and furious eyes.
"Honestly, sir, your behavior just now is truly disappointing. If you don't want to be ruined by a 'racial discrimination' scandal, you had better apologize to this lady and fulfill your duties as a business owner by selling her the food. After all, she has already paid, and the fault lies with you."
By now, quite a few people had gathered around, whispering to one another. Naturally, the majority of the comments were negative toward the middle-aged man. After all, in America, there were still many people who rejected racial discrimination.
Watching the whispering crowd, the middle-aged man was so angry he took a few steps back. His face turned beet red as he gritted his teeth and shouted at the onlookers: "You have no idea what she really is! She is a muta—"
"Hey! Please watch your language, sir."
Upon hearing the start of the word 'mutant', a bad premonition arose in Dilos's heart. With lightning-fast reflexes, he interrupted the man and said sternly: "You are engaging in personal attacks again, sir. Do you know that? I have already recorded this."
Dilos held up his phone; the screen was already lit, displaying the interface of an active voice recorder.
"As soon as I hand this recording over to the police station, I'm afraid you'll be spending quite some time in a cell. Furthermore, I believe my friends here, who are full of a sense of justice, will post this online. I imagine your shop won't be open for much longer after that." As Dilos spoke, he looked toward the crowd behind him.
"Friends, tell me, can you tolerate such an injustice?"
"No!"
Several people replied in unison. Then, a black man stepped forward, looked at the middle-aged man, and said: "This is your fault. You need to apologize for your actions, sir."
Then, a young teenager stepped forward, pulled out his phone, and added:
"Otherwise, we're posting this on YouTube."
"Y-you people!" The middle-aged man was livid at the scene Dilos had orchestrated. He tried to argue several times, attempting to finish what he had started to say, but Dilos interrupted him every single time. Most infuriatingly, every time Dilos cut him off, the crowd behind him would chime in to support Dilos.
In the end, the middle-aged man could neither speak nor remain silent, and he shut his mouth with a dark expression.
The time is right, Dilos thought, a smile curling on his lips that appeared incredibly detestable to the middle-aged man.
"Please apologize, sir."
"I am very sorry." Ultimately, under the gaze of the crowd, the middle-aged man walked up to the Asian girl and apologized with a look of humiliation and anger, then packed up her order and handed it to her.
The sight of his eyes, reddened by humiliation, made the Asian girl feel a bit of pity, but remembering her previous treatment, she straightened her back and accepted the vindication.
The matter concluded. Although the issue was resolved, Dilos no longer had the mood to eat there. He simply packed his food to go and prepared to leave.
Just as he was about to depart, a pleasant female voice reached his ears.
"Please wait, sir."
Dilos turned his head and saw the Asian girl running toward him with her packed meal. Her pale face had a faint, unnatural flush from running, but it did not diminish the sincere smile she wore.
"Thank you, sir." The Asian girl's smile was very sweet, giving off a comforting feeling.
"It's nothing. Serving a lady is a gentleman's honor." Dilos smiled and tilted his chin, acting a bit cocky. His smug look made the girl chuckle.
In truth, the reason the crowd had been so supportive of Dilos wasn't just because many of them hated racial discrimination; it was because Dilos had exploited their mindset, using telepathy to subtly nudge and hypnotize them. Otherwise, how could this group have cooperated so perfectly?
