Background / History
Yamato is Kaido’s daughter, raised under his violent belief that “might is all that matters.” After reading Kozuki Oden’s journal, she became devoted to Oden’s ideals, declared herself to be Kozuki Oden, and vowed to liberate Wano Country. Kaido repeatedly punished her for this defiance, including striking her unconscious with Thunder Bagua and imprisoning her with Seastone shackles and an explosive collar. 83 98
At eighteen, Yamato escapes Onigashima in search of food and encounters Gray in Wano’s forests. Drawn in by his food and stories of travel, she agrees to aid his revenge against the Celestial Dragons in exchange for freedom and the chance to see the sea. After initially resisting giving her real name, she introduces herself to Gray as Yamato. 98
Gray removes her shackles, later destroys her collar, and takes her to Green Bit. There she is welcomed by the Tontatta Tribe and begins training and sparring with Gray. King’s attempt to recover her ends in his defeat and capture after Yamato, Gray, Monet, and their allies cooperate against him. 99 101 102 104
Yamato subsequently joins Fairy Tail’s conflicts against the World Government and Celestial Dragons. She fights alongside Hancock, participates in the confrontation at Whole Cake Island, trains with Gray for greater Haki mastery, and remains one of the guild’s major frontline combatants. 115 132 137 148
Appearance
Yamato is a white-haired Oni woman with a tall, well-developed build. While escaping Wano, she wears an ogre mask and carries her kanabo, Aken. 98 99
- White hair.
- Oni heritage and physical strength.
- Frequently fights with a spiked kanabo.
- Can transform into a beast-human form through her Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. 99 100
Personality
Yamato is straightforward, excitable, and intensely drawn to freedom, adventure, food, and combat. Sharing a meal is enough for her to regard someone as a friend, and Gray’s stories of the outside world quickly strengthen her determination to leave Wano. 98
She is stubborn about her identification with Kozuki Oden and reacts aggressively when others challenge it. However, her desire is fundamentally to become a heroic figure who liberates Wano and protects friends, rather than merely imitate Oden. 83 98
In battle, Yamato is fearless and highly competitive. She enjoys fighting opponents near her own level, refuses to retreat when challenged, and is willing to throw herself into dangerous conflicts for her allies. 100 120
Abilities & Skills
Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit
Yamato possesses the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami, a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that grants beast-human transformation, frost-based attacks, and exceptional physical recovery. 98 100
- Her form emphasizes speed and frost rather than the extreme defense associated with some other Mythical Zoans. 100
- Minor injuries heal rapidly due to the fruit’s vitality, her Oni physique, and a semi-Life Return-like digestive ability. 100 105
- Can freeze the sea beneath her feet, allowing her to travel across its surface without entering the water. 137
- Uses frost-enhanced techniques such as Ice Fang of No Servant, Ice Execution Slash, and Divine Swiftness: White Snake Drive. 100 105 115
Haki
Yamato possesses all three types of Haki and has developed them through repeated combat with Kaido. 95 99
- Observation Haki — Detects attacks and enemy positions; used to track Gray’s Flying Wheels and react through smoke or concealment. 100 102
- Armament Haki — Her Armament strength initially exceeds Gray’s slightly; she combines it with her kanabo strikes and frost. 100
- Conqueror’s Haki — Can incapacitate weaker opponents with an invisible burst of willpower. 99 106
- Ryuo / Internal Destruction — Uses flowing Haki to deliver damage through defenses, including against a Zoan-enhanced CP leader. 98 105 115
- Advanced Conqueror’s Haki — Has been instructed in its application by Gray but has not been confirmed to have mastered it. 137
Rokushiki
Gray forces Yamato to master the Six Powers through training restrictions and aerial pressure. 105
- Shave — Used for explosive movement and to close distance. 105 106
- Geppo — Allows aerial movement. 105
- Tempest Kick — Produces flying blade-like kicks. 105
- Iron Body, Shigan, and Kami-e — Mastered after her movement techniques. 105
Kanabo Combat
Yamato is a direct, high-impact close-quarters fighter whose style reflects Kaido’s emphasis on overwhelming force. 100
- Thunder Bagua — A Haki-infused kanabo strike; without Conqueror’s Haki infusion, it lacks Kaido’s characteristic lightning. 100
- Ice Execution Slash — A frost- and Haki-infused overhead kanabo attack. 105 115
- Hakoku — Combines her power with Hancock in a joint attack powerful enough to pierce Aramaki’s Wood Giant. 147
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Aken — Yamato’s spiked kanabo. 98
- Ogre mask — Worn while escaping from Onigashima into Wano Country. 98
- Seastone shackles — Former restraints that suppressed her Devil Fruit ability; removed by Gray. 98
- Explosive collar — Former restraint intended to prevent her escape from Wano; destroyed by Gray. 99
Relationships
- Kaido — Father and jailer. Yamato openly defies him, rejects his rule over Wano, and repeatedly vows to defeat him. 83 98 125
- Gray — Friend, rescuer, mentor, and sparring partner. Gray frees Yamato from Kaido’s restraints, trains her in the Six Powers, and recruits her to fight the Celestial Dragons. 98 99 100 105
