Shen Le felt a little pleased.
Though he had turned and left at once, following the vampires to inspect their sacred artifacts, he still had the Holy See on his mind.
A single blossoming branch does not make spring; only when a hundred flowers bloom does the garden fill with it. Doing business with only one party would never amount to much. To sell arms, you had to sell to this side today and that side tomorrow—that was how you made the business big!
Oh, right—sell a little more to the weaker side, and a little less to the stronger side.
If their positions reversed, then the arms sales quotas had to be adjusted accordingly in order to better balance the situation.
More importantly, remember this: the arms sold to each side had to be different. Under no circumstances could they be interchangeable. If one screw thread turned left, the other had to turn right;
If one bullet had a caliber of 12.7 millimeters, the other had to be made 13 millimeters;
If one fighter jet had to push the control stick forward to pull up, the other had to pull it backward—
In short, even if they captured each other's equipment, they would not be able to use it directly. They could only obediently sell it back to us as scrap, after which we could refurbish it and sell it a second time!
Who to sell to and how much to sell were matters for the negotiators to worry about. Shen Le did not understand any of that anyway, so he absolutely would not meddle. As for the final point—differentiating the arms—he did have a way to manage that:
