Background

Xie Xie is an East Sea City native from the Xie Family, which holds a notable position in the city’s mecha industry. His familiarity with local businesses and forging explains his early interest in securing Tang Wulin as a future personal blacksmith. 22 51

He meets Tang Wulin at East Sea Spirit Master Academy and immediately challenges him to a fight, initially offering to pay Tang Wulin’s compensation fee and an additional reward if Tang Wulin wins. When Tang Wulin’s urgent search for dragon-type soul beast blood interrupts their duel, Xie Xie provides useful information on where such blood can be found. 6 7

Personality

Xie Xie is proud, competitive, and prone to acting before thinking. He repeatedly seeks rematches with Tang Wulin after losing, takes particular offense at perceived disrespect, and openly boasts about his talent after reaching the second soul ring. 14 15 37

Despite his arrogance, he is capable of recognizing help and accepting trust. During a class match, he acknowledges Xu Xiaohui’s support after her soul skill allows him to escape a disadvantage; later, he respects Tang Wulin’s need to keep a senior’s identity confidential. 17 49

He is protective of people he considers his own. Xie Xie immediately attacks Guang Long after the man assaults Uncle Li, a stall owner who has known him since childhood, and later risks himself trying to rescue Gu Yue from Guang Biao. 23 25 He also shows a carefree generosity toward friends, treating Tang Wulin and Gu Yue to food and offering above-market payment for future mecha components. 22

Major Arcs

Early Academy Rivalry

Xie Xie challenges Tang Wulin soon after they meet and becomes increasingly determined to defeat him after consecutive losses. Tang Wulin defeats him at East Sea Park, carries him back to the dormitory after accidentally knocking him unconscious, and later defeats him again despite Xie Xie revealing his second martial soul. 14 15 18

Training and Class Promotion Tournament

Wu Zhangkong appoints Tang Wulin and Xie Xie as class monitor and vice-monitor, then gives them separate special training. After Gu Yue defeats him, Xie Xie is threatened with exclusion from the tournament unless he reaches level 20; he succeeds in breaking through before the competition. 19 21 37

During the tournament final against Class One, Xie Xie helps target Zhang Yangzi, escapes Wang Jinxi and Wei Xiaofeng through Light Dragon Storm, and later assists Tang Wulin against Wang Jinxi and Zhang Yangzi. He is ultimately badly injured and eliminated by the Dark Phantom Demon Eagle Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 42 43 45

Snack Street Incident

When Guang Long attacks Uncle Li, Xie Xie initiates the confrontation despite the opponent being a two-ring Great Soul Master. He fights beside Tang Wulin and Gu Yue, uses both daggers to injure Guang Long’s eye, and later attacks Guang Biao in an attempt to save Gu Yue. 23 25

Xie Xie is rendered unconscious during the confrontation with Guang Biao and later awakens back at the academy, unaware of Yao Lao’s intervention. 26 29 37

Spirit Ascension Platform

Xie Xie enters the Spirit Ascension Platform with Tang Wulin and Gu Yue, contributes to defeating a Cave Demon Spider, and absorbs soul-ring energy to improve his ring cultivation. 51 53

He reacts fearfully to the escalating danger of the platform, including the appearance of ten-thousand-year soul beasts and the uncertainty of the emergency escape device. He is knocked unconscious during the crisis, but awakens near the escape device and later narrowly avoids a lethal Black Dragon Annihilation Breath when Wu Zhangkong pushes him aside. 54 57 61 62
